Has anyone noticed any difference whatsoever between the new implemented Facebook chat feature and the the Jabber work around prior to PR1.2 other than the little logo (FB or Jabber) next to the contact? I cannot see any difference in the way they work and have already merged all the jabber contacts to my phone contacts so I won't bother switching to the new facebook one if they both work in the exact same way.

really really annoying, i have 170 friends on facebook and i dont chat to about 150 of them ever ... my phonebook was really full up and it took much longer than usual to bring up contacts list.

I dont really want to delete the other 150 contacts from facebook so what I have done is created a second facebook account and added the 20 contacts i will use chat with and enabled the new account on my N900 for chat and use my original account to log into facebook as normal on web pages!

Bit annoying to have to do this but it has solved my problem!

go to ur accounts settings.. where u can change ur e mail and all
there u'll see something like giving ur profile page a name like "www.facebook.com/XXXXXX"
give ur account the name
then in ur mobile, the XXXXX is the username..
for example...
http://www.facebook.com/25th.ArmouredRegiment is my user profile..
and to get into facebook, i gave my name as 25th.ArmouredRegiment@chat.facebook.com
hope that helps..

I'd had issues connecting, even after logging out & back in on my pc browser.

I ended up having to forward port 5222 on my router to get it to work.

hi all, ive worked it all out be sure to thank me on youtube, comment on a vid, type in tomprocko i have 3 vids

so anyways. as markcub says above, follow his instructions. but once u have ur username (not ur signing in on facebook.com name) go to ur home screen and tap and hold down on the facebook widgit. tap on the little settings icon (the spanner) and delete ur account. then go to conversations, click across the top, press accounts, new, facebook. pit in ur username and password and off u go should sign u in. then u can sign bk into ur widgit

my problem with getting facebook chat to login was my username and password always came up as being wrong, after i setup my username. the solution to this was to logout and log back in.

http://developers.facebook.com/docs/chat this is some info on facebook chat.

the next problem i had was although facebook chat logged in, it always would disconnect adding all the fb friends to my contacts

from the information on the page linked to above, i think this problem is caused by me being behind a router. therefore this problem can be solved by either forwarding port 5222(or enabling upnp, i imagine), which at the moment, is too much hassle for me.

this leaves me wondering, why does the app use port 5222? and in the advance settings, why bother with including a stun server when the chat doesnt even work behind a router.

5222 is the port for xmpp traffic. That is the protocol that facebook chat uses. Just like you use 80 for http or 143 for imap
