Jan/Feb an update was issued.

Rumours of Harmattan surfaces.

Nokia announced free version of OVI Maps for Nokia phones except the n900. qgil posts an explanation ("Calm down dear it's only a commercial").

People here get a bit miffed.

Bone-headed statement from Nokia executive announcing that OVI Maps is coming to maemo but not the n900 instead the next version on a later device will get it. qgil posts an explanation ("Calm down dear it's only a commercial").

People gather pitchforks and torches.

People question nature of exsistence (PR1.2 and metaphysical)

To be fair 3 updates in 5 months - not bad.

qgil becomes "official" source of Nokia announcements - whether he like it or not (you have my sympathies dude)

Then of course there is MeeGo.....

Should Nokia compensate it's customers?
No.

Despite severe lack of coherant communication from Nokia. I think the n900 lives upto "computer in my pocket" but maybe falls short of being a high-end phone.

Personally I have not had any major issues with my n900 and very happy I bought it.

I do have issues with Nokia Management.

Indeed. I was afraid for a minute that it wouldn't be a worthy successor to my N95, but I can now safely say it deffinitely is.

It's why I went with the (user) reviews and not the hype.
Before I get something I make sure I do my homework, just like I did with any other Nokia smartphone I got in the past.

A good question indeed. Plus that any other phone has it's quirks as well.
But at least the N900 -for me- is not a broken device and even before PR1.2 it did what it had to do just fine. Nothing was crippled for me personally.

Vodafone have most likely found themsleves in a nightmare situation with the the wrong type of buyers finding themsleves buying the device due to incorrect marketing (many people buy a phone like a fridge they simply expect it to work as advertised at least in the UK) and the 1.1.1 and 1.2 delays. For which they are taking a pounding on the vodafone eforum and im sure in the other customer service departments..

Did you try reflashing, had similar issues prior to 1.1 and reflashing worked for me.

BTW a curious comment, with those top 3 features in your list you have selected the N900....hmm no wonder you would feel disappointed

i used the n97 32 GB and my disappointing in the low application memory wasn't too different as i wished for the above mentioned features + the touch screen and qwerty keyboard

the N900 is a lot faster and wider in its storage capacity than the N97 but
nothing is complete

my N900 is updated with 1.2 and if there is way to make that app manager work again tell me even if it need to format - reset or re flash the device (Dunno if the three words are the same fort he people here or not)
i can't back it up and ready to execute

The n900 is a great device but a very basic phone. Is it too late to return it?
