the HTC desire Z looks like a true rival to the n900 and n810

reports are there's a few quality control issues so I'd wait a month or so until HTC have had customer feedback and can improve things.

I'm not saying one or the other is better... Forget things like that...
They are both good, and we should compare them to other things! They will both beat all other things.

And HTC devices are rather easy to root so you can make ssh connection and terminal to the Desire Z.

The Desire Z fails pretty much every openness test you can throw at it right now.

The Sharp Lynx SH-10B looks quite promising, provided the OS can be replaced with a sane distro and the device ever manages to reach the western hemisphere.
