... I just want to add one thing, the N900 is being mistakenly sold as a phone and not the Step 4 out of 5 experimental Tablet with Phone capabilities in MANY countries including the US, therefore people buys it thinking that it's a new powerful Nokia phone that has all the features that every other Nokia phone has plus many more, only we find out that it's missing lots and lots of features including the most basic ones.

It's not the people's fault. Sure people should research what they're going to buy, but many people don't and that could be because of many reasons like trusting Nokia for example... etc.. So it's Nokia's fault for the false advertisement (Nokia Marketing), yes Nokia did say that the N900 is step 4 out of 5 in Maemo Summit, but you can't expect many people to know about that _especially_ when it gets marketted otherwise later on...

And, wtf with all the silence about the future of the N900, who are they hiding secrets from? Is there another company out there that's going to benefit from N900's news if they were told by Nokia somehow? No. So why play childish games and hide ino about support and update on the N900...

And speaking of updates, I don't want MeeGo on the N900 but at least, add thos missing features to Maemo 5 and fix those damn annoying bugs, and stop freakin experimenting on us!

I love this device and I love Nokia! But I hate their officials for taking so many bad steps... It's been said by someone before, Nokia is trying so hard to lose customers.. It's amazing how they can do that and then praise themselves about it.. And no not talking about their hardware or software, but their PR (Public Relations) which sucks so bad!

So I am not trusting Nokia anymore and nobody should, until they start being clear about their actions and actually open up a bit and stop being so quiet about everything their doing... Best thing to do from now on is to actually wait about 6 months from the release of a new device and see how it's being supported then buy it..

Anyways, had to vent a little bit as I am a bit pissed off at Nokia.. lol..

I guess many newcomers don't expect the step 4 to be such a dead-end.... there are not many commercial apps let alone useful ones, many things have to wait till Harmattan to be fixed but then it will not be officially ported to N900. Well, in hindsight all are not surprising considering Maemo's past records.

I switched to Sony Ericsson after Nokia 6600 and 7610, the Sony ericcson was always the best for me I loved the Walkman, camera and the design of all phones that I used but then i waited so long to buy a perfect device with the best technology, to feel better when ever i use it.
So sad i was impressed by Nokia N900.

No folder option , no portrait mode , lack of apps...

Iphone 4 is the best to wait for.

Don't know why, ask Nokia...but I do miss several things on it:

- HDMI TV Out
- Flash 10.1
- USB Host Mode (Keyboard, Flashdrive, Mouse)
- Portrait Keyboard
- More paid apps
- 720p WMV/Divx/Xvid playback

... that's about it. Other than that it is a great replacement for a netbook.

i emailed this to nokia bout a week ago through the europe site..
mea gave the typical response that sorry for inconvenience etc etc ********
and europe didnt answer.. its been a week..
here it goes

as far as i'm proud to admit, nokia has never given satisfactory support to any of its consumers or old products.. as soon as a new product comes along, the old ones are completely forgotten..
happened to 5800 with the scrolling issue and random freezes and now n900..
ok sure.. missing features like ussd.. but heck?
say callers name?
thats a primitive feature present in almost every mobile phone..
sure it took u almost 3 months to fix the ussd along with several bugs but why call off product support?
isn't nokia working with other companies for meego development?
why cant nokia itself take official part in the development for the drivers of the closed components? what about flash 10?
is it ever coming?
maemo 6?
does this happen to all of your products?
i've personally have had many issues with the 5800.. and i've seen others with n97 have issues too.. and n81? the camera issue? "feature not supported?"
and n900 has violated privacy with the "my nokia" service which is not needed by many and sends an international text message without permission of the owner and own his own expense..
and sure, your reply is going to be "will be fixed in next firmware".. plz.. do tell.. how many years do i have to wait for that new firmware?
and why is the n900 soo laggy?
everyone has overclocked the device up to 1000mhz.. why cant that be official? till now, no one has had issues with it..
why cant the builtin media player stream from youtube?
why is the community working at features like host mode without nokia's contribution?
wont the precess speed up if the professions play a role?
why is nokia's one of the best smart phones missing voice navigation?
why can others make 3rd party softwares to introduce missing features which work rather then nokia officially bringing them with the firmware itself?
and facebook? why not msn or yahoo?
sure i can install external plugins but then i'll have to sync all the contacts all over again..
and arent msn and yahoo only as popular as facebook chat?
i'd love to see your reply..
its interesting to see how someone can lack dignity like that..

Dear

Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.

In regards to you enquiry, we sincerely regret to hear that you are facing issues with the Nokia N900 and apologize for any inconvenience caused. Kindly be advise that Nokia is always committed to resolve issues the customers maybe facing some of which can only be resolved by taking in the device to Nokia service points.

However, kindly be informed that some of the applications and services for the Nokia N900 you are currently enquiring about are already available in the below link http://maemo.org/downloads/Maemo5/ which has special applications for Maemo devices such as the N900.

Unfortunately, the current version of Maemo, the software that powers the N900, does not support navigation. With Maemo 5 we prioritized development of those areas that we felt would be the most important for the target audience of this device. This means that Maemo does not yet feature support for the full range of services that our other Symbian-powered Nseries devices might have. However, naturally, we’ll be working to increase support for all Nokia services, including navigation, as we go forward with Maemo.

Please be informed that the Nokia N900 latest firmware is 10.*.* so if you haven’t got this version then I would recommend you to update.

Should you have any further enquiries, or if we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Nokia Careline via http://www.nokia.com/mea/contactus.

“Keep your phone software up-to-date by using the Nokia Software Updater. For more details visit Nokia Support and software at http://mea.nokia.com/support#. You can also go online to find user guides, troubleshooting support and other services to help you use your Nokia product”

Kind regards,

Kevin Simon
