So... let's see. You guys are attacking a person who - admittedly crudely - has stated some problems that many others have commented upon.

The path to playlist creation is indeed a bit convoluted. Here's a few on this site alone...

Battery life? Here's a few on this site alone...

Memory faults, problems... and not just including rootfs? Here's a few on this site alone...

Now, with a calm mind and whole hell of a less fanboy attack mode, let's be honest. There are some problems. These problems are amplified only if you are lacking: knowledge, the ability to use the search button, haven't done your research before purchasing the N900, or better yet... lack the willingness to learn.

Now. Instead of this swarm of a whole bunch of usernames that have only signed up within the last few months dictating how this forum looks - I hate the majority of the responses in this thread, stopped reading two pages in - then why not try to help and convert a person to see the same stuff as you N900 faithful see?

Sheesh. It's easier to attack than answer, I ****ing get that. But you know, how about a different route.

OP, you state memory full. Do you have which applications you were attempting to use/install when this happened? A full list would help you out fully.

The playlist creation, it is indeed a bit "complicated" but it's functional. Which programs are you used to in the first place? I think that might dictate what you might be expecting.

Battery life... are you running this stock or overclocked? Are you signed in all day and using heavy IM, et al?

If you start to answer those questions - which admittedly you already might have, I stopped reading as of page 3 or so - then let's bring them back up and let's see if there's a solution.

I feel your pain. Think this phone had so much potential but has been a huge disappointment. For tech heads it is probably a wet dream. But for the normal user who expects a shiny $600 device to work without spending ages on the internet trying to find how to make it work it can be a huge let down. Nokia devices just seem too buggy nowadays and have all sorts of issues. Hopefully that changes with meego given that there is someone other than just Nokia working on the software.

I love these threads, but they're like The Cure - a lot of pissing and moaning and hardly any substance.

To sum it up: The phone isn't useless. Most of these issues can be attributed to PEBCAK - or the inability to understand how things function. Pro tip: the N900 isn't very 'forgiving' for your average 'smartphone' user, regardless of how it was marketed. You bought into the marketing schemes, which is your fault - no fault of the N900 or this community.

Taking some time to look around this forum before dropping into tantrum mode would very clearly solve most of your issues. You don't like the playlist functionality? Use a different media player. You don't like the phone rotating all the time? Uninstall rotate daemon. If you're having that much trouble updating it, reflash it to the latest stock PR 1.2 bin for your region. It isn't difficult.

Whining about researching and using a device with this much realized and available potential only reaffirms one thing: You need to go back to an iPhone.

Cheers.

FYI, N900 is not a Phone. So Don't classified it as a Phone feature smartphone. N900 is an internet tablet with Phone features.

Get the facts right. Of cause N900 will be the worst in Phone features, but the best in internet tablet computer.

Probably the best suggestion on the whole thread!

(improves battery life, removes reboots, applications start to work faster (mediaplayer also, atleast in my case), makes phone more responsive etc. etc.)

This advice should be sticky on forum's N900 section with a title like "Problems with N900? Try reflashing"

I'll give you a hint. Did it ever occur to you that maybe you're wrong and the phone's right?
If you and your 18 thanker's were asking him to consult this:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space

I would say that Nokia should be offering refunds.

the n900 has poor call audio quality compared to my old £10 phone, and needs updated java for its browser (perhaps it will happen eventually, unofficially)?

other than the missing frames whilst recording videos using the camera, the rest are fairly minor bugs i have already posted about. if the above could be fixed, I would be more than happy!
