Wow, radiochickenwax, that's the longest list of browser I've not installed/heard of yet.
I have the current browsers installed:
- microB
- Firefox
- Iceweasel
- Tear
- Chromium
- Opera

My Opera tend to close unexpectedly on some sites (flash related, maybe?) - or I'd use it more. Sometimes I'll start Chromium if Opera closes.

When I don't need tabbed browsing, i use Microb. So Microb #1 and Opera #2, with Chromium as substitute Opera.

Firefox and Iceweasel feels awfully slow. And Tear I haven't really started enough to make up my mind about it.

I only use microb. I tried Fennec, liked it,loved all of its features but it's too slow.. not with rendering web pages but panning, scrolling, etc. Microb is just superior in this part. Truth to be told, I wasn't that happy with microb either.. it was reaaaaaaaaally slow with the requests on a server.. looking for a web site for ages. At some point I just changed the dns settings on the connection manager (using google's dns servers at the moment, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and wow, what a difference. The connection/requests speed is what it should be.. just amazing.
Didn't try yet the other browsers.. I will for sure, but right now I don't think I'll switch from microb.. hopefully I'll be surprised though

Opera:
has the best user interface experience
portrait mode with portrait virtual keyboard
quite fast browsing
but
no flash
no user agent string customization

Microb
Good user interface
has flash (soon v10 i hope )
fast browsing
complete user agent customization
but
no tabs
no portrait keyboard

Firefox
complete user agent customization
has several add-ons
but
Imho the user interface is not very efective
bit slow
(however is my desktop's favorite)

For me the winner so far is:



Microb

but Opera is getting close

I use microB the most. But I use all three of them for different purposes.

Opera for my other Google account (though I won't need to do this for long once Google allows multiple logins using one browser)

Fennec for when I want to continue a browsing session from my desktop (usually if I'm in a hurry that I can't click the desktop readitlater adon).

Use MicroB all the time. Guess I'm just get used to it.

Tryed Opera,but didn't like that simple zooming and the fact I can't switch languages(kinda pain in the *** for ppl like me who uses another language often).However I consider Opera to be the fastest browser on Maemo so far.

I have the latest version of Fennec,but use it mostly for purpose Laughing Man mentioned above. At least for me properly working sync has become real only with 1.1 version. But in general FF seems very slow,scrooling even in the options is a bit laggy,so I think it's optimization flaw...If it's fixed I would consider changin to it.

Tryed Chronium but it crashes every time. Don't use it at all. The only reason I still have it on my phone is to show my friends how N900 cool that it can have all popular desktop browsers,of course including chrome.

One of the main reasons I like MicroB is "hide user agent" thingy I have installed. I don't like the fact more and more sites have this autoswitching-to-mobile version crap....I also like how microB is accurate when I tap something,almost never make a mistake.
And I wish there's Opera-like tab switcher:seperate windows is kinda annoying. Likewise I would love to see some sort or Opera start-up page...Or at least opportunity microB starts up with home page...

Where are you guys making these resolver changes?

I have that issue with microb as well, but not firefox. My resolv.conf has been set with 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.1, and 8.8.8.8 for a while now (for openvpn). But maemo uses dnsmasq, so don't think resolv.conf gets used. Could be wrong though.

My browser of choice on n900 is fennec. Much faster at opening pages and rendering. Scrolling is a bit laggy, but not a deal breaker for me. The interface is great.

In /var/run/resolv.conf. That is what dnsmasq reads when it loads. Make the change and see if that helps.

As for my browser of choice, I am increasingly using Fennec, ever since the 1.1 update. I have an overclocked kernel so the browser doesn't feel slow (yes, the startup is slower than microB but once it loads, it works fine) and it seems to render pages better than microB. I also like its tabbed browsing interface and ofcourse the plugins work great.

Ah, /var/run. I was grepping all over for a resolv.conf and now see why I never found it. Wasn't online.

Have to check out the configs to find out how to force a specific resolver.

But it's odd. Fennec doesn't have that issue, and the resolvers get set to good ones. Either my isp's if on wifi or t-mobile's. They should work fine. But I'll check it out. Thanks.
