I don't think crack screen will apply to the warranty term and condition.

Apple sell their OneCare separately anyway. You can buy that package whenever you like. And even on an old Iphone 2G as long you still haven't opened it. But yeah I just wish they have a JailBreak spy in the OS. And cannot downgrade OS like Nokia.

For example: N900 cannot downgrade to lower version once you've updated. You can downgrade it but your phone reception will be dead. I think this is a best way in term of protection ever.

Lol why?? And that will never happen, as long as you're pro in the scene and know what to do and have done all your backup tasks, you'll never get into any problem. I.e, if you have done stuff like backing up your SHSH blobs, and always keep up to date with the dev teams, then u'll know there's no need to update to a firmware that breaks the jailbreak, or update to a newer iTunes that does the same.

U don't even need iTunes to sync with ur apps/games/music anymore now days, at least i don't. I download pirated .ipa or .deb files straight on my iPod Touch.

With Apple, warranties are pretty much your only chance in getting the device fixed if something happens to it.

IE: glass screen crack cause you drop it
IE: battery problems (can't replace the battery yourself)

And considering the N900 has a faulty USB port that can come out, I say a warranty is pretty useful.

Those people are the type of careless or noobish users. Power or pro users won't need it, and even if we do, it's easy to restore it anyway. And ur example doesn't apply, dropping your phone and wanting to use the warranty because of the cracked screen will never work for any brand or company. That's an external cause, that's your problem. Warranty only works if the software or the phone itself has problems, but if you dropped it or break it then that doesn't count.

As for battery problems, that might be possible, but really that chance is pretty slim. Iphones or iPod Touches have pretty damn good battery life, you gotta admit that. The battery performs well and afaik, the number of people that have problems with the battery are almost 0 to none.

So a faulty USB port is a noobish or careless user? Interesting. . Anyway, I was just listing examples of issues that people may have (whether it requires the special care package or not).

Anyway, I have a feeling Apple has been relatively nice with the whole jailbreaking scene so far. But they could easily take out the entire jailbreaking scene with a real push on the software side (it isn't just iTunes reporting, it can be the iPhone itself reporting data back to Apple). It's not as simple as the current jailbreak methods which relies on exploits in the system. Or if they want to go down the legal route. A cease and desist letter to the team just for violation of the EULA. The DMCA exception only blocks Apple from going down the you broke the DRM route.

And then unless your "pro" enough to follow the limited mailing lists or IRC channels with the smaller dev community (a legal threat usually breaks apart these efforts once developers know that X company knows their real name) your efforts to avoid Apple's detection schemes would be made that much harder.

That's like asking "Is it better better to be straight or gay?"

Some will say homosexuality is immoral. But most would say "different strokes for different folks"

Some people don't need all the power and resistive touch screen that the N900 has, some people rather deal with the App Store - it's their choice. One is not better than the other - they both are different devices. It's fairly simple.

I never said anything about the USB part.......you said that yourself. I was talking about just the iPhone, not the N900. Quotes from you:

And considering the N900 has a faulty USB port that can come out, I say a warranty is pretty useful.
The thing is, N900 is open source and is encouraged to hack or do whatever you want to it. Sure there is still a few limitations as to how far you can access the system but it's generally open, hell they provided wiki documents on how to overclock, change the voltages etc......

So ya, warranty is all good in this case, which is what's cool about the N900 coz of its open source.

As to answer your questions, while those can be true, but it's not worth their time and effort. I've hacked many devices before, ranging from:

Wii, PS2, PS3, XBOX360, PSP, Ipod Touch, Windows Mobile, UIQ3, Android, DS.

And every one of those scenes are still alive and growing strong. Developers will never win this war against hackers, no matter how you look at it. There're always people out there doing the impossible, and making this awesome for pirates like us.

It's not like this matters anymore anyway, Apple lost the lawsuit to fight against jailbreaking. We win. What more can you say?

And really, i'd like to hear exactly what Apple can do, or what you would do. Block access from iTunes?? No problem, there're other programs and far better ones that does the same thing as iTunes.

Block the App Store?? LOL? U do realize warez forums contain over 100GB+ worth of apps/games that you can download?? You don't even need iTunes to sync the apps/games, you can download straight onto your iPhone and install it from there.

I'm not posting any website or trying to advertise here so i hope i'm not breaking any rules, but just to make a point, Google: AppTrackr. That site keeps up to date with almost every app you can get from the App Store.

Then, we still have the Cydia store. As well as over 100+ repos/warez forums to back this up.

Really, you just can't fight piracy, no matter what field or area you look at. Piracy is what's killing the developers, i admit. I do support them though as i still buy worth-buying games or apps or whatever. But the truth is, you can never fight or win against it.

This applies to every other platform like the PSP or DS or whatever. Same thing. They all tried, but failed.

Lastly, what i mean by being "PRO" in the scene is simply keeping up to date. It's a matter of simply reading announcement topics on what firmwares not to install etc etc. Ur exaggerating too much by saying u have to join IRC channel. I have never used it in my life and there's no need for it. It's as simple as logging into Maemo.org and keep up to date with the latest posts or news, and learn that e.g. PR 1.3 firmware will come soon.

Besides, Cydia also shows you on the front page whether you can update to a certain firmware or not.

Hell, it's a lot easier to jailbreak than doing some of the tweaks on the N900 such as overclocking. Now days, you can jailbreak with just an internet connection, no computers required.

People have been going to the Apple store to jailbreak the iPhones that were on display (including the iPhone 4s). So ya, the process is rather ridiculously fast and simple, just literally touch a button and you're done.

LOL WTF...??

This is the most random and ****ed up example i've ever seen someone use.......

And being gay is just......why would u want that?? It's not natural. It's a matter of choice, i get that. I have no grudges against gays, but seriously, that's just wrong. U'd be ****ed in the brain to choose to be gay coz it's just against the natural path. But that's a whole different topic, and i'm gonna quit right here.

Actually not true. IIRC all you need to do is reinstall an older separate package outside the PR flash and it'll work again.

People had this problem around the leaked PR1.2 and a few people found the workaround for it.

I hate apple.. but disagree completely about wanting them detecting and disabling (which they are working on..) jailbreaked devices. That's actually one more reason to hate Apple, for me.

List me some good one so I can bring it up when the right time to use it. I believe other people would want to know as well.

My cousin owned an Iphone4 Jailed break and he said that who would use the FM Radio now a day? It's useless and very noisy, and most importantly it's an old Technology!! Why need FM when you can just stream off the Internet and play MP3?

He strictly said that Iphone4 is the best phone in the world, period. No other phone can ever compare with the mighty iPhone4.
And then he said the N900 is an old technology even the touch screen is crap comparing to his Retina screen.

Then he is on and on about the iMovie map tagging, HD bullcrap, hyping over his 3G connection is very fast.. The touch experience is amazing blah blah blah..

Retina screen enhancing the reading experience and iBook application is the best application ever. No other device out there can ever have this much clarity and elegance and even better than reading the real book.

It is hard to arguing with him when ever I said something he said do you have proof and do you have the reference?

So I should ask the community to give me some good run down of what the Jailbreak Iphone can't do and give me a strong point to shut those iSlave people off.

Im sure that by now you already have amazing points provided to you by great n900 users, im not a very powerfull n900 user, but i have this anecdote....

Today at work i went to the cafeteria, we have three LG huge tv's and everyone is watching something, then in the other part we have the cofe shop and they have a huge stereo on (very loud) all the time.

I was eating and my friend start talking about his iPhone, and then he asked for my phone, showed my phone he looked at it and said, "that phone is freaken gordo" (freaken fat) and then lol, i said nothing and in the tv they were showing some stupid "Marta Stuart like" show, and i change it w my phone (my tv @ home is a LG but smaller) and he freaked out, he ask how you did it? i laugh and said "if i tell you i'll have to kill you" LMAO!! then i went to the shop and put the phone next to the stereo and change to the FM Tunner and put my music, at the end he almost cry cause of his iPhone, he wants my phone now

Ya while this is cool but it's nothing new to make people go "WOW" enough. This is already available 6 years ago, where you can control TVs at school with a phone like the Sony Ericsson K750i by using infrared.

iPhone can actually do the same thing, with an external hardware attached to it, but ya i'm just pointing this out.

I believe it's called AppleCare.

On that note, I think Nokia sells one too. Their version is called DontCare.
