I highly recommend JAPOD, from dealextreme. I just got one, and it does perform better than half year old genuine bl-5j. IT IS 1320Mah, and it is closest thing to genuine nokia, for a fair price.

Are you basing performance on observing use time between full and shutdown, or are you basing it on observing the battery meter? because the meter is darn unreliable...

When i bought japod from dx, they sent me 1150mah bl-5j instead the 1350 mah. The 1350 mah was quite rare. Some Seller told me that It's not being produced by japod at the moment. The 1150mah is for fake chinese nokia n900 mobile phone(I checked in www.japod.net). The performance of 1150mah is below the original nokia 1320mah due to capacity but works great without any issue.

I wonder if the 1350mah really outperforms original nokia 1320mah?

Just like to add that I've bought stuff from e_cell before and it is generally a load of ****. They even sold me fake Wii nunchucks. Not 3rd party, but fakes advertised as genuine.

Real life usage, first day i got it charged i used it moderately, and damn and i went home with 63% WOW :O Then i put to offline mode, set the alarm and went to sleep. next day it died at about 1pm. That is better than i get with genuine one. I am not saying that this battery is a miracle but it is the capacity it advertises, and performs decently for a price.

EDIT:
Here is the proof: (Look at battery.reporting.design)
Original Nokia BL-5J

Japod from Dealextreme

Both are fully charged, as you can see the are at about 1200mAh actual charge now.

you can trick the "battery.reporting.design" by changing the resistor in the battery's PCB.
Witch is one thing i will be doing myself when i make my own battery's for the n900, first im going to test the battery's i get, to get the real mAh value of them and then setting the resistor to the fitting level so the phone will report something like 2400mAh

The real test is to hook it up to prober testing equipment or to use it in the phone and hopefully get same run time as orig battery

maemo doesn't really detect accurately batts greater than its original size. The question is if detection is not accurate then how the charger will charge? Up to only original size?

I bought this batt http://www.eastmaze.com/High-Capacit...one-p1394.html. But I think the detection is not so well with maemo. It only detects 1267 mah with lshal|grep batt command.

I think the best way to charge your batt is throu wall charger instead nokia original one. What do you think?

i actually charge my bat sometimes with a pro charger, this of course means i can charge the battery all the way up to 4.2V, witch will give an extra 5% battery time.
and again the battery capacity is reported "via" a resistor on the PCB in the battery. i checked my "extra" battery the battery that started this thread that has a true capasity of 800mAh, still phone reported it to be 1260mAh, and looking at the PCB there is a 100K resistor.

How about the performance of that 800mAH batt? How long does it last? My Eastmaze 1500 mah is the same or a bit better than original on normal use. It's not too significant.

I'm not sure whether EastMaze 1500mah is fake or not. But, when i checked the temperature it display 35-37 Celsius degree

in the phone i tested it by watching full movies for a "fast" battery drain:
The original battery is good for 4 hours+ or 2 movies+
The "fake" battery from e_cell was good for about 2 hours or 1 movie+

And my battery test showed 806mAh not the 1930mAh as advertised or 1200mAh as hoped for......
Haven't tested my orig battery on the equipment yet, but if i get the time i will post it here.

To bad i don't have enough dough right now, else i would gladly spend some $ on different battery's from ebay, DX and other places you out there have found, and posting the REAL capacity here.
if there is some left next month i will do the above, but for now im experimenting with making my own battery with 2000mAh+, even planning on making a REAL BULKY one that will be over 3000mAh, as long as it can fit in my pocket it's ok for me
