Download DE and try it out then, much better than Mer already

Considering I didn't bother with an N900 myself, I might actually try out the Galaxy Tab port (bonus: 7" laaaarge screen... another disappointing quality of the N900 was the REDUCED screen size compared to my N800). Still, if it's truly an open-source OS, it shouldn't really matter what I'm running it on as long ad a minimal set of drivers are involved. Either way (Tab or N900), I'm deeply annoyed that blobs are going to be involved but... what can I do? :/

Actually, has anybody tried porting it to the Nook Color? That thing seems virtually impossible to brick, very inexpensive and HIIIIGHLY hackable.

Yes apparently MeeGo is running on the Nook Colour (I think).

Shouldn't matter, but GLESv2/EGL drivers are a hard requirement to get any kind of reasonable performance - in MeeGo.com we build towards Mesa so any kind of GLES implementation can be used, depending on device.

If you bothered to do an easy Google search, you would have easily found this thread:

if you are not a technie who wants to write code for the N900 and drive development for a hobby platform, dont waste your time - move on and get another phone.
Sorry but i can only disagree with you in many ways because not only is the N900 becoming more and more hackable but also the hardware is proving to be probably the best ever Nokia device to work with even if it does have a usb problem (easy to repair).

And to make such comments without first trying out MeeGo from the brilliant work being accomplished so far is an unfair comment.

I of all have been more cynical than you for sure but now i see real progress and if i could turn back the clock !.

I think there is something revolutionary about this community that shouldn't die. The N900 potentially has a lot of room for dramatic improvement. There still aren't phones out there that make me want to get rid of the N900. One of the great things about this community is that it has effectively been abandoned by Nokia. I wish there was a way it could continue the march, maybe join up with the Pandora cult and become a truly independent force beyond the clutches of the increasingly corrupt commercial interests that are struggling for control of the chaotic movement that started when PCs became affordable by individuals and empowered even more people when smaller technology occupied people's hands and pockets.

I agree with Abil_uk that the N900 is becoming more and more hackable, though the time can't be far off when all of our usb ports break and we have to move on. I hope that we find devices to move on to that are worthy of the N900 and the community that has sprung up.
