that should do it.. , no need to reboot , test copying files to MyDocs before rebooting.

i am trying it ,i got this error in the 1st step

root

Nokia-N900:~# umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
umount: cannot umount /dev/mmcblk0p1 : Invalid argument

maybe you have it already unmounted , try proceeding , if it isn't unmounted , then reboot and try again , if rebooting doesn't solve it see my previous post for details , as I edited it .

[edit]
try un-mounting using :
umount /home/user/MyDocs
instead of umount /dev/mmcblk0p1 though I think there is no difference .

if you want to know if it's mounted or not then just type "mount" and nothing else , you will get a list of mounted partitions.

OK. couple of questions to recap...
- When/How did when all this start?
- Other than the most recent 'invalid argument', what are the symptoms? i.e. What are the error messages and where/when do they occur?

If the problems can't be diagnosed/rectified, it's not the end of the world but you might need to resort to Space Oddessy 2001! In which case, the bad news is that if the problems exist in /home/user/MyDocs, then you need to reflash the eMMC as well as the kernel. Uugghh! The good news is that it is highly likely that you will be able to extract most data from your phone to a pc, when the device is connected in Mass Storage Mode and I think pc suite can extract texts as well as contacts and diary items.

Backing up is tiresome but the result of a full flash is a fresh new device (so long as you do it right!).

Edit: Regarding Mass storage mode seeing just the sd card and not the N900 itself: Removing the sd card before plugging in the usb cable resolved it for me.

I did not realize when really it happened and what was the cause but when i was trying to add, delete the file it used to show an error " Read Only File cannot be deleted "

I tried Flashing both Kernel as well as EMMC but I only succeeded in Flashing Kernel & reloading it not the EMMC, Emmc Flashing process had ended with error.

Data is not important to me , i just want delete everything from this phone and want a fresh phone.

Is there any other way to flash the EMMC? i think the Meamo.org process was simple but didn't work.

Now I remember, It had all started after my phone had gone to dead state and that was the 1st time I tried flashing kernel after that i think this problem started.

My phone initially had Global Firmware but after flashing i think now it has Indian firmware.
Now when i am trying to download the firmware, it shows

"Product ID not valid. Please re-enter the 15-digit IMEI code."

Now this is new F**ing problem, I bought this phone from USA and now i stay in India so warranty is not valid.

Did you press "U" on your keyboard while pluging on USB while the phone was turned off?

I have same problem. Flashsing Vanilla gets me into error code 1.

Then I've tryed to disable emmc and "move" it to external SD, as discribed by user "Durango" but it does not work. Anyone with other clues?

PS: Nokia Brazil repair center would not even accept my phone for evaluation since it was bought in Spain. My last Nokia phone... so sad, moving to Android.

As for the topic of the thread, which says POLL, I find the poll subject and the poll alternatives very strange.

When you make a poll, you generally don't want to do "Have you stopped beating your wife yet? a) No b) Not yet". ;-)

Maybe "Have you had problems with emmc becoming read-only", with these alternatives:
a) Yes, and I was able to resolve it
b) Yes. and i wasn't able to resolve it
c) No
