PLEASE DO THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK. I am just posting the contents from http://nokia-n900.com/nokia-n900-ovi-map-enhancement/ for others to do easily.

A. Change your device language to English (USA)
B. Go to terminal and login as root using the command “sudo gainroot”
C. From now on is all command lines : ( on x-terminal

1. apt-get install espeakgui espeak libespeak espeak-data wget unzip
2. cd /usr/share/nokia-maps/html
3. mv index.html index.html.nokia
4. gzip index.html.nokia
5. wget http://www.pittnerovi.com/jiri/hobby...00/maps.tar.gz
6. tar zvxf maps.tar.gz; rm maps.tar.gz
7. cd /home/user/MyDocs; mkdir navigation_sounds; cd navigation_sounds
8. wget http://static.s2g.gate5.de/maploader...english_us.zip
9. unzip english_us.zip
10.cd /usr/share/nokia-maps/html ; ln -s /home/user/MyDocs/navigation_sounds/english_us
11. nohup ./speak_02.py >/dev/null &
12. wget -O /dev/null http://localhost:9999/hello ; wget -O /dev/null http://localhost:9999/:g5ann_001

Once you are finished with this you will hear test sound. After that open your OVI maps and search for any directons it gives you voice turn navigation on the n900 version.

Even though it is not latest ovi maps version still it's cool.

hope this could be useful to someone.
What exactly do I need to do with the attached file?

[QUOTE=gorgezilla;1028879]1. download the archive
2. extract the archive
3. copy the turnbyturninstall.sh file into your mobile,
4. go root to the folder destination in x-terminal and then type [B[/B]
5. make sure you got internet connection available. [/QUOTE

i copied the turnbyturninstall.sh script(not folder) to home/user/MyDocs then went into xterminal and typed
sudo gainroot
sh turnbyturninstall.sh
press enter after each command.

i think that's how i did it, you can also do it through filebox.

What do you mean trough filebox?

you may be better doing it the long way rather than the script way, don't want to run the risk of bricking your phone. I basically bluffed my way through with it, knowing i had backupmenu installed with a recent backup to turn to.
Question:-
Once it's installed can you turn your languages back to english(uk)??

good luck hope you manage to get it sorted. have a read up on filebox though it may help. i had the same problem as you at first, guess i wasn't in the right directory in xterm so it didn't see the script.

so before I jump the gun and install it, I want to know does the battery life deteriorate after installing this? I mean does the espeak daemon keeps working even if the maps application is closed?
