I'm not following TMO or FMC much for quite a while, but there's still some threads I'm subscribed to.

So what seems to be the problem? The video codec used skype video is VP8 and open source. Peregrine is also open source.

We just need someone wizz to put these things together and we have skype video calling?

Am I missing something here?

Silly question; what about receiving a video feed even if you can't send one yourself ?

May be, though it'll add dependency on GTK, but it's better then nothing at least.

what about qt messaging framework then? Or directly relying on Qt Mobility?
It seems fenix is only an interface to the Qt Mobility framework, so maybe building one in Qt/QML is not so hard?
