OK, I finally received my 2gb card and copied the Navicore program and tried to install the Navicore software but I could not activate it with US maps since it is the Europe version. So I copied over the UK maps and it appears to work, if I was only in the UK. Then I went into the settings and chose the US East maps and the program shuts right down. I sent Navicore a request to see if we can use US maps. Maybe someone on this forum knows how we can use US maps. I am sure someone has moved to the US from Europe and needed to use the US maps. If I get an answer I will spread the word.

I hope you get some positive response. When I got my 770 a week ago I was excited about the gps possibility..until I ran into the same lack of info about a us solution. The map project solution (not sure what its called) I have not heard
much positive about it. I am thinking about just getting a seperate GPS and save the myself the hassle.

Seems like Navicore is missing out on some Rev's by not making this more available. Oh Well..

Finally received a response from Navicore, they tell me I need a new license key to use US maps. I asked them if they would cancel my Europe license and swap me for a US license since I will no longer need it in Eurpoe. No reply yet. I also complained to them that it was not fair to require us to buy licenses for other areas since we can only use the license on one device and the device can only be in one place at a time.

So far I have a nice windshield mount, a spare 1gb MMC card, maps for Europe, and live in the US. Since we can download the US maps it basically costs them nothing to allow us to use those maps.

I have also started to use Maemo Mapper but you have to plot your trip completely and download all the maps you think you need before leaving since you need an internet connection most of the time to download maps as you drive. It cannot reroute you without the internet connection if you change your route on the way. This is not a big issue right now since I use a 2gb MMC card to store the maps and pull down the maps with 100% detail.

If anyone comes up with a workaround for Navicore please let us know.

I'm not sure but I believe that the map vendor (Tele-Atlas) may require separate licensing of the maps. If that is the case, then there is little that Navicore can do. I would imagine that eventually the maps will be sold separately from the navigation kit at a lower cost.

I believe that is tha case but since I already have a license I cannot see why they dont let me use the US maps, I am sure they will sell plenty of them with US licenses. I work for a worldwide corporation and we do not require you to purchase a separate account to use our service in different countries.

If they don't wake up they will never make it worldwide.

It really is a strange game that Navicore is playing. They list the price of the Navicore software as 149 Euro, including VAT. But when you go through checkout, your invoice reflects the price as 149 Euro, not including vat, and VAT as $0. So, essentially, they are evading the VAT law and charging US customers the same, even though we would lawfully be entitled to the price less vat.

This is in addition to the already described tortuous non-explanations about the narrow availability of the North American maps to N.A.-based customers. The only explanation I can think of is some agreement or understanding between Navicore and its OEM purchasers to prevent the availability of this software at anything near its actual retail value, to undermine true competition and value for the end consumer.

Atthehop,

If you have no luck with navicore, and they do not let you swap your key, would you be interested in selling your key? I am in the UK and a already have a GPS receiver and the UK maps, so all I'm missing is the key. I realise this doesn't solve your problem, but it may alleviate the loss you incurr in your pocket,

P.

Does the US software or kit include Canada or is Canada a separate license / purchase? Thanks

Not sure, one thing I am sure of is whichever kit you buy you can only use that license for those maps. If you need maps for other countries they want you to buy another license at 99 euros each.
