It looks like that solution requires some kernel modules which
most probably doesn't exist on N9.
vpnc works because it runs on userspace and uses (only) tun/tap
interface N9 provides by default.

I would try this:
Gateway: server adress
Group Name: try here user name, too
Group Pwd: IPSec-PSK
Usename: your user name

... The outgoing call is initiated properly from FRITZ just as if I would use a connected DECT phone being at home. I can even hear that the called phone is ringing. But when the other side answers there is absolut silence on my N9 as well as on the phone on the other end.
I know from other forums that VoIP by SIP over VPN is of high interest for many users.
There is no audio problem when i'm doing the same with my 808 where the vpn client configuration is done by NOKIA's own tool.
