The lock screen comparison is quite an interesting topic (mind that I haven't used the N9 for more than couple of weeks; after few years with N900, I went straight to Jolla).

Let's see:
N900

You can see:
  • Time
  • Date
  • Type and number of notifications (no text)
You can do:
  • Nothing, just unlock the phone.

N9

You can see:
  • Time
  • Date
  • Type, numbers and details of notifications
  • Battery status
  • Connections status (operator, cellular, wifi)
  • Online presence status
  • Alarm clock status
You can do:
  • Open the notifications by sliding them away (no accidental taps)
  • Unlock the phone

Jolla

What you can see:
  • Time
  • Date (appears for 3 seconds)
  • Type and number of notifications (no text)
  • Connection details (wifi, Bluetooth, operator name)
  • Alarm clock status
What you can do:
  • Change profile (general/silent)
  • Launch one of three predefined apps
  • Tap once to see the battery status, cellular signal info and online presence status
  • Swipe to see notification details (open the events view)
  • Unlock the phone

With that in mind, I would say that informative-wise, the order is N9 > Jolla > N900 and action-wise, it is Jolla > N9 > N900. Therefore I cannot see how the transition N900->N9 could be described as getting a pointless lock screen.

Note that I am not talking about custom lock screens (the Qt based one on N900 or the Launcher on Jolla). I also never used the N900 lock screen, as I always unlocked it with the side button which brought me straight to the home screen (the same can be now achieved by double-tapping the power button on Jolla).

@pichlo
4. Buy iOS, S40, WP, Blackberry if you Don't like android and you'll get status bar. SailfishOS is here because of no status bar.
7. It's application developers problem, not SailfishOS
9. gaps are ok for lockscreen icons, not launcher.
11. I'm using sdcard with a lot of partitions.Unique ids are much better than Disk A, Disk B and etc. And there are no easy way to teach application writing to sdcard in this case. SailfishOS is more like desktop OS in common operations. If you want to save something to sdcard you need to know where is your sdcard and you should be able to navigate to sdcard in filemanager.
13. Not every application allow to be loaded with input file parameters. This is the only stop factor. You can easily add mime types to application desktop file and register it to be started when registered extensions called. For example initial version of media player had no such feature and it was added in next sailfishos releases. Again there are no problems in SailfishOS itself, only problem with application developers (even if Jolla developing application)

Actually I think an optional status bar would be nice. Also there seem to be quite a lot of users requesting it, so there seems to be demand for including it.

Plus points if you can easily add custom notifications on it like on the N900.

I think it needs to be added that because of the physical unlock slider most N900 users don't see the lock screen or even more or less don't know it has one (me included).

Yup - that's why I mentioned TJC on another post. The status bar topic has been about for ages. The only concern I'd have is whether adding it optionally would hinder performance, but that's something for SFOS developers to figure out I guess...

When you add status bar to that then user experience would be excellent:

If I am serious for a moment then Jolla should do something that would show more information on that screen. Keyboard taking too much screen and maybe smaller text or something.

adding a status bar will mean one text line less, I cannot see how user experience will be improved. I'd rather have the LED providing that notification instead.

we are not late. If anyone is late its jolla.

One update/thread at the time is enough in My opinion

Release 14 or 15 would be sailfish 2.0
