Just got around to installing the new 1.0.7 version of Kagu, and yet again, I come away impressed! Love the new main screen, with more ways to access all of the songs and albums. And now I can have the "shuffle all songs" option, which is the main feature I use on my iPod.

trevarthan - I haven't seen anyone mention this, but what are your plans for that unused, dark bar at the bottom? Right now, the only thing there is the 'Back' button, but it seems like it could be used. Even just putting a cool looking "Kagu" title bar heading or the program logo. Another possibility could be to have the currently playing track, for the times when we go back to the main page and that area is visible. Just a thought...

Man, I wish I knew how to program...I would love to help out, but all I can do is make requests Keep up the good work, guys!

(I'm guessing comments would just be a display thing)

BTW, does anyone particularly feel the need for a Genre view right now?
Hi. Yes, rather than a dedicated sub menu that you would search or interact with, could "Year" information be statically displayed when entering your new "Artists" sub menu and viewing the album art (?) - I personally like to know original release dates (it helps me put music and bands into context!) and I just like extra snippets of information - it helps flesh out the mp3 experience I agree though that "comments" is a less useful tag and hardly anybody uses that field.

"Genre" can be useful & fun, especially if you have eclectic music tastes, but again isn't essential.

I think you and everyone who's contributed to the coding/aesthetic have done a fantastic job with Kagu. The speed of development/evolution and very frequent updates has been great. Hopefully people with Linux experience will 'step up' to assist or skin/theme.

Thanks for a great application. I hope to see more fixes and features. I am using Kagu with the 770 OS2006. A couple of observations.

- I need at least one mp3 song with my ogg songs or I get "No media available"

- ogg music plays great with the installation of N770Freak's gst-ogg-vorbis_0.1.deb.

The only fly in the ointment can be seen in the attachment. Every version of Kagu does this - dupe albums, dupe artists or dupe songs are shown. I hope an easy remedy can resolve this problem.

Keep up the good work.

I've been thinking again how "Year" data could be utilized - rather than necessarily displaying the information, could it be used to sort the order in which albums are displayed in the "Artists" menu, rather than alphabetically? That way, discographies would be displayed in chronological order...

You'll get this if songs belonging to the same album exist in different directories. This is to distinguish between different artists having the same album names ("Greatest Hits" or such)

Trevarthan: As previously reported, I have edited all 95 of my song titles in mp3 format and saved the overall collection as FAVORITE VOCALS on my mmc card. The File Manager shows the titles fine, in their edited form on the mmc card. But when I run the Kagu Music Scanner and then bring up the Kagu Media Player, the edited titles do not appear. Instead the names of the albums from which I extracted them appear for each title, but the albums themselves are not listed under Albums. I suspect that all my efforts have been in vain. I can however play them with the N800 Media Player from the mmc card. I have already un-installed Canola as useless to me. (I find I can handle Internet Radio feeds easier with the Media Player.) But I sure would like to utilize Kagu for my mp3 music, but with the necessity of identifying individual song titles. Really frustrating. Sorry to burden you with this, but I don't understand what is happening. Thanks again and regards.

Trevarthan: To clarify my last message, it's the ID tags that I edited, and they are what are not appearing in the Kagu song list, although they are seen to zip past as the Music Scanner is doing its stuff.

By the way...

Kagu is perfectly happy with AAC files, too, if you tell /usr/lib/kagu/kagu-scanner.py to look for them!

Fire up your favorite editor/method of editing, and find the line that references '.mp3' and '.ogg', and simply add '.aac'. In version 1.0.7, that is line 316, and the line after the change reads:

ext_l = ['.mp3','.ogg','.aac']

Then everything just works...

Malc.

We've put the title in the upper left for 1.0.8. Don't really have any additional plans for the dark bar at the bottom. Precious little screen real-estate as-is.

Malc.

I just tested and committed WMA support for 1.0.8 this morning:
https://www.guardiani.us/projects/kagu/changeset/539

And seeing this post I decided to throw in AAC support too:
https://www.guardiani.us/projects/kagu/changeset/540

Can someone with a lot of AAC, MP4, or whatever files download the developer snapshot (see instructions here) and try it out for us? I don't have any AAC files to test with at the moment. I'd like to see A2DP + AAC tested too, if possible.

Thanks.
