Guys, guys, guys:

Nokia announced N97 shipping 7 June. Phone was in stores between 20th and 23rd.

Leave factory -> picked up by international expedite carrier -> clear external customs -> wait until there's a space on a plane -> fly to destination country -> clear incoming customs -> travel to distributor -> get sorted into batches -> ship to retailer c.o. -> ship to individual stores

Personally, I suspect we'll see the first phones (in very limited numbers, in flagship stores) on the 17th.

But we'll have to wait and see...

7th June was a Sunday...
Didn't know they work on Sunday??

I think 17/18th sounds right (after the meet up in London)
I'm happy to get the N900 at the end of next week.

A call to the Nokia green numbers, here in Italy, ends always with a random answer:

1) We have no date, at the moment

2) The shipment was started two days ago

3) The shipment starts about in the middle of next week

4) The shipment starts on November 25

and so on

All the above answers are coming from today calls.

But you're saving 50 quid at least!

Bewarn Nokia Online Store has a bad reputation for their after sales!
mmm. It's a risk to start again at the end of the line, this close to release, assuming I'm in a pre-order queue with play.com. I need to have a good old think / drink! That's put a downer on my weekend

edit: I can't see how MPD can have exclusivity for 2 months when it's not available to preorder on their site anymore - redirects to Nokia uk page.

Could some of you please stop the use of 'Nokia (and whoever) are a bunch of ******s' and so on and so forth. What kind of whiners have we got here recently? What about showing some grown-up behaviour? I haven't had to add anyone to my 'ignore' list yet, but seriously.. come on!

Unless they get the stock from some 3rd party. I'm thinking getting from flagship stores at wholesale price then resell?

Is that only for the UK or worldwide? Though I'm guessing by the mentioning of flagship stores it's worldwide.

I have to say (if this is true), Nokia is doing a great job of sinking the ship before they even set sail out of port. Irritating the open source community they've worked with and tried to cultivate by being a ghost, the initial delays with no explanation or communication. And now burdening 3rd party retailers who had expected the product to arrive around the end of 2009. And they expect this to help them beat back the advance of Android, the iPhone, Windows Mobile 7? Pfft.

I asked about this some time ago and the clarification was that no other High Street Retail Stores would be able to sell it so online is another matter, just not Carphone Warehouse et al.

Google Translate of the N900 related livechat questions:

Q: This question will certainly be with, but ask anyway =) But why the N900 takes so long to come out? And the battery will be better than what is indicated when tested Mobile cell phone?

A: Hey, N900 is a good example of what we are and all that develops open source has ådstakommit with Maemo software. We work very closely with developers of open source and Maemo Summit, which was in October, we loaned out a few non-marketable units ready to get more feedback. The feedback was important for us and when we want to give the best user experience with the N900, we decided to postpone the start of global sales from October to November. Betteriet has 270 hours of standby and 6 hours of talk time. However, there is a challenge for all manufacturers of high-end units on the market today that battery consumption depends on how you use it, and in which networks and how they are configured. Personally (with fairly strong use) so I can drive held the day to then load it at night. Then I am always online on div IM services, running mail, browser, twittrar etc. It can survive much longer than that and also less than that, depending on the use of data and processor-intensive applications. N900 has a 1320 mAh battery and battery-efficient processing.

Q: When towed N900 in Svergie and why was the person in so late?

A: N900 will be released in Sweden later this year of 1.1 software. Why do we in Sweden do not drop it now at 1.0 software has to do with that we want more volume available at säljstart and we want to ensure that everyone who receives a N900 in my hand, a user experience as it is intended. With the 1.0 software does not support N900 SIM ATK. All consumers do not care if they have just a SIM card with ATK, and we at Nokia can not guarantee that all will be enlightened about the items. out in stores or to anyone who receives a hand will get the amazing experience that will give the N900. In October we had a developer conference with Maemo, N900, and open source developers. We received very good feedback which we wanted to take advantage of and implement before säljstart which also affected. Hope this answers your question. We understand that many people who pre-ordered to have their N900 and we will work on in order to ensure that we can deliver them as soon as possible with a guaranteed quality user experience.
