One example use case would be me and my music collection - A fair portion of my digitized music was ripped from my CD collection perhaps 10 years ago, and back then ID3 tagging was fairly rudimentary, and not even provided by many CD rippers.
So, I have the majority of my music collection sitting in per-artist folders of my own creation, with incomplete/no ID3 tags. Using playlist-based players always results in my music being sorted horribly badly as a result, trying to play music by a particular artist will always end up with it being split between the artist's name and "unknown", possibly with variations on the artist's name in some cases, with different capitalisations, dashes instead of spaces, etc etc.
In other words, the use-case is for people like me who have their music collections sorted the way they want it, without having spent countless hours making sure every single track has correct ID3 tagging in place, and just wants to listen to some music by X or Y artist.

The directories are more then needed. Do you think I know all the artists/albums or song names?
I have a folder in my phone with my fovorites songs...
It easy to show the path than to type a name who almost every time you can't remember. On the other side what playing by folder has to do with playlists? There are separate features and we, the final users can choose what fits best for us.

I really don't see the point of developing features like: Instinctiv Shuffle or others Shuffle options who even are not working proprely! Shuffle, shuffle and shuffle again! Waste of time!
And why I should share with you my playlists??

Take as example the application of Lonly Cat Games with this Main Features:
  • High-quality stereo playback
  • MP3, AAC*, FLAC and OGG music formats
  • Includes free SHOUTcast™ Internet radio directory
  • Fine volume control - 100 levels from silence to loudness
  • Sleep timer letting you to fall asleep with your music
  • 10-band equalizer with several presets
  • Playlist editor - add, remove, save, load, order your songs
  • Bookmarks for comfortable playback of audio books
  • Album image search on Internet
  • Lyrics search and display
  • Playback in normal or random order
  • Mini mode displayed on phone idle screen
  • Playback of Tracker music (MOD file format)
Simple and reliable application!!!!!!!!
For more info and screenshots look here:http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=lcgjukebox

This is what we need and this should be your focus!

I know that this work for us is for free, but this is your choice and it not must be an escuse!

Anyway I will pay big money for a software like Jukebox.

Do it! And you will see alot of happy users!
Thanks!

Just a suggestion for the developers, to help solve this.

Would it be possible to have a few older versions installable from the repos, to allow peeps to "roll back" to a previous stable version?
Or failing that, have a few .deb files somewhere that can be downloaded and installed via x-terminal.

I'm still using 0.3.14 as this seems to be pretty stable on my device, apart from the odd 100% CPU bug and the clunky scrolling through the album list.

Well, I can't speak for most users, but a LOT of us have a huge music collection that takes up almost all the phone's memory. That's 30+ GBs of music that has been collected over years and years.
What that means, that most of them don't have metadata or inconsistent metadata.
It's going to be a pain inserting that metadata into 1500+ files. It would take MONTHS and most of us have jobs haha.
Besides, as a user, I'd like to have freedom of how my music is organized and not a piece of software that tells me how to do it.

The way that the tracks are organized is very simple. I just dumped my music folder to .sounds the way it was organized in my previous player (and on my PC):

Pretentious Band - Pretentious Album/Pretentious Song1.mp3
Pretentious Band2 - Pretentious Album2/Pretentious Song2.mp3
Game Soundtracks/Metal Gear Solid 3 OST/song1.mp3

And so forth and so forth.
Since I have my music organized by albums and some misc categories like that, it's much easier to browse through.

Look at the way MediaBox can handle organizing file brosing. Basically like that.

Also, will the interface be faster in the future? Can you make it so it utilizes the GPU for faster scrolling and so forth?

What I really like about this player is that it loads fast, uses minimal resources and looks really awesome. Great eyecandy.

If that simple "Browse By folder" function will be added this might just make me turn over from MediaBox as my default player because of the looks and lower battery drain.

I may be wrong but I think that properly tagged music is quite important for this application and the developers' ambitions for it. If you don't feel like retagging your music (or just downloading properly tagged versions of it) then don't, but you really can't expect the developers to change their plans to suit your preferred method of remembering what your music's called.

And as for Shoutcast integration - surely there are dedicated internet radio apps more suited to that.

Audiobooks? This is a music app that is intended to detect your mood and play you things to suit that mood - do you expect it to pick up that you fancy hearing a chapter of Martin Amis followed shortly afterwards by some Steinbeck?

Lyrics? Really? You want your N900 to be a karaoke machine too?

I think this piece of software is coming along nicely and I hope that people give it the chance to develop and not demand that it be something they think they want.

those answers were referred to peter's question 'what's the user' . I guess none of us use instinctiv, and this is exacly why.
anyhow.. if something like mood in musicovery will be implemented i will give a try at tagging...

I think most non itunes users will have their music organised in a simple artist\album\song structure - when I use Rockbox I don't use the database as I prefer to browse that way and I have a lot of live recordings that tend to freak the database out a bit (Coltrane worked with a lot of people). How about if instinctiv devs agree to implement folder browsing and end users agree to spend a little time sorting out their tags (it really is very simple these days) to make sure that they get the most from using the application?
