We'll see. I am more looking forward to seeing the N900. Hopefully it'll be out within the next six months!!!

Meh, you already told us as much yourself. I don't see anything new or interesting here.

A vibrate function. This would be helpful whether the N900 was a phone or not. It would be useful to know when certain events occur (receive IM or email). I would be willing to increase the width of the N900, if needed, for this one.

^ good suggestion. A piezo membrane would be cheap and easy to include.

Would it be completely impractical to make a partly modular tablet? I would first of all like to replace the camera, but there might be other things that could be changed as technology advances.

Yes. Besides battery, stylus, and memory card it looks like everything is all or none.

If you want anything more modular than a PCMCIA/cardbus/expresscard type slot, yes, it's pretty impractical; the size hit for modularity is much more punishing in this form factor than a laptop or even a T&L.

So I think it would likely be suicide for the device in question; the benefits of swapping cameras, etc., would only really show up later when better cameras and such are available, and it's too late then.

I still like that IBM idea: produce a small highly-modular engine that could slide into a variety of form factors. I know it's unlikely to ever see the light of day, but a rat can dream...
