Who told you so? Earliest date I've heard about was that Nokia was trying(!) to get them out on October 12th in the german Nokia store (which long has been pushed to October 30th).
Through which official venue was the "late September" date published?

Early suggestions tipped a late-October release, though Nokia UK are currently suggesting the N900 won’t arrive until November 2009.
Not sure if this has been posted already. Either way it makes me

Based on the e-mail I just received back from Nokia regarding the ship date for my order, it looks like they're sticking to a mid-October release.
