It's been since July that the rumored launch date is 23 sept so it's hardly surprising that it hasn't been launched so far...

It will be also officially available in Slovakia as I found out yesterday, 64GB version for €600 but no specific release date so far. This is different from list of countries which we have seen shortly after N9 was revealed. Maybe they changed mind and later added some countries...but probably this is not the case of USA,UK, Germany... :/ Such a shame.

Does anyone know if calenderitems will be shown on the eventpage? I use my calendar allot together with MfE. And on the N900 i've got the calendar widget which tells me when i have an appointment.

I don't have to want to open the calendar app everytime i want to see if i have an appointment.

Also: which apps are available for Meego which were on Maemo (i know apps can easily be ported from maemo to meego, but there is a big difference between "can" en "do".

I know Liveprofile is coming to Meego; so thats a big improvement. Just wondering what other apps will be usefull on the N9.

Have you actually used a N9 extensively yet, one that's running the very latest build?
I ask because IIRC, some N950's are actually running builds of Harmattan as old as April.
And that's just all I've seen & read about, there may be N950's with even older builds.

Nokia has already publicly & clearly said numerous times now: "N9 will be supported for years" (plural)
Even Elop is on the record as saying this...

What does this mean? At the very least it means they'll honor the 2yr warranty* properly, by swapping a faulty N9 for a working one.
Of course this also depends on how well the N9 does.
If it's a flop** they may stop manufacturing relatively early, so whatever inventory was left, may have dried-up 2yrs from widespread availability.

They never made the same claims for the N900.
It was aways always publicly acknowledged as an experimental/learning platform.

They never really tried hard, to shift it towards being a mass-market & consumer-focussed ph by launch.
Primarily because at-the-time, they still felt Symbian was the "golden egg layer".
And they didn't want to risk killing that off, for the sake of an experiment they weren't sure would take-off.

Plus by the time the N900 was ready, they realised they needed to head in a different direction w/Symbian & Maemo.
As now that they were the owners of Qt, they needed to leverage it properly across both platforms.

This is the "biggy", if some major handset maker doesn't step-in soon.
We can kiss good-bye to it getting anywhere near the kind of momentum Android enjoys.

It might still struggle along....
But it'll only be for folk that are prepared to hack their phones heavily on a near constant basis.
Similar in analogy to desktop linux, it's here & can be very awesome, if you've got the time/inclination.
But it also constantly breaks, and requires constant attending to.

But I hope a developer can implement an option to show events that are coming (or make the choice between: show appointments for today, show for next 3days, show for 1week/7days) with possibility to limit the number of coming appointments in calendar that is shown in event screen.
+ birthdays should be visible on the day they are active.

That's exactly what happened to the November 2009 released Nokia N900. As early as late last year, folks were getting offers for other phones to them.

2 years, despite EU requirements wasn't followed for the Nokia N900. The faith to do so for the Nokia N9 is more than likely wasted despite anything they've said.

No, hence I base my views on my experience with the N950. The only significant change that I'm aware of (regarding SwipeUX) is to enable configuration of which screen is displayed depending on the direction of the swipe. This is an improvement, but is still not enough to lift the overall productivity level above that of Freemantle. My overall impression is that they threw the baby out with the bath water.

As it stands, from an end user perspective, I don't see much to differentiate this device from the likes of the iPhone. I don't mind some 'dumbing down' of the UX, if that is the price to pay for mass adoption of a FOSS platform (in fact I would welcome this), but with limited availability and practically no marketing, Mr Joe Sixpack ain't going to be buying one.

I'm not convinced. Besides, what concerns me is not a lack of software support, but the risk that Nokia will cease to repair/replace N9s in the future (i.e. within 2 years of release). There are already cases where N900 owners have been asked to accept N8/E7 as a 'replacement' for a faulty N900 returned within the 2 year warranty period. I don't see any reason to believe this won't happen with the N9.

As far as they're concerned, the N8 or the E7 is an upgrade to the N900. So Nokia may legally be in the clear for supporting said product through an upgrade that 'provides similar or superior features and capabilities' to that of the original product.

(Yeah, we know. But explain that to Nokia or the regular Joes).
