This is called "smart reply". And the same method exists for forwarding mails, it is called "smart forwarding".

So: what's the deal with the N900?
Normal reply (everything is transmitted to the server) and smart forwarding.

Let me explain the rationale behind. Maemo mail client supports quoting (you put your answers inline). And if smart reply is in use you can only support top posting (no inline comments). So, it has been decided to drop smart reply support and leave the Maemo mail client unmodified.

But when you forward the mail, smart forwarding is used.

Could you explain this in a little bit more details?

1. Reminder popups for calendar entry when cancellation notification for this meeting has been received.
Yep. But if the meeting was not removed from your calendar then... Anyway, got the point.

2. No "lookup in global address book" feature.
Yep. Heard this many times.

1. Inability to sync N900 if server is setup not to allow non-provisionable devices will be a showstopper for major businesses.

Yep. Discussed a lot here. Thank you for the feedback you have given.

To me that's a _feature_, and as it should be.

Is this totally a no-go for maemo5?

Not sure. Especially if the code of as-daemon would be open-sourced.

this "feature" gets very annoying when you forward someone initial email and that someone has no idea where and when initail email came from.

if you forward an email using most other devices and\or software, recipient of that forwarded email will get something like:

"
From: XXXX
Sent: Thursday, December 17, 2009 2:21 PM
To: XXXX
Subject: YYY
"
followed by forwarded message text.

In current MfE for N900 implementation, recipients of forwarded email get only message body without header I've quoted above.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. E-Mail client behavior, not MfE specific in fact. Will inform relevant guys ( including myself. ha-ha )

hello

i just bought an N900 and wanted to throw away my iphone. i already have an n97 mini which i use for business in Finland and so wanted this phone...

i (naturally) assumed that email would be as straightforward as it was for the N97...i clicked on the mail for exhange set-up screen and keyed in the necessary information.

And nothing....

a weeks worth of fruitless effort with my companies helpdesk and then a call to Nokia whi are saying that MfE doesnt quite work...

i am not a techical guy, but surely a fix must exist for this. either that or i hae just wasted over £400...
