Sure, I have such cable, but it's not standard, i.e. it's a hack (it doesn't comply to USB standards). Of course if Jolla decides to use mircoB, they can play nice and ship such cable together with the handset from the start.

But, as usual, I suppose they do this because they do not plan to certify the device for USB Host (again).
Yeah, that's my point. Using microB with such adapter/cable for host mode is a non standard hack. But what does USB host mode certification imply? That Jolla has to pay money to some standards holding cartel?

Yes I know, hence why I mentioned their "recent problems".
But good idea to post it again here for those that weren't already aware.

Yes. But if there's a USB logo on the box you are already paying the "cartel". (Or should be, at least).

It looks a lot like android, despite the 1-button difference.
Sailfish has the pulley menu, much better than buttons, especially for large devices, it has back and it has a button, inside the app, you may use it instead of the gesture if you so like.

Which ones? All the gestures you described are done from inside the screen, no need for edge swipes, thus Android.

I take it you've never used the N9? Because it's so natural, that I end up doing it on every other phone. Even chrome has the side swipe gesture, which I admit is difficult to perform on a Note, but that's becase the implementation is half-assed. I've never lost a side swipe on the N950 despite it having a smaller bezel than the note and flat screen.

What you are asking is indeed a complete overhaul.

Blackberry did exactly what you are asking for, only up/down swipes, but this is more unnatural than N9's edge swipes as you swipe up-then-left to drag thigs left/right which is confusing. I understand that they did this because only the upward swipe wasn't enough, and the downward swipe was used for the notifications.

So you are asking for iPhone...it have multi-tasking fancy gesture too.

from this post by Fawz found this video where Marc Dillon answers a few questions
  • due to the swiping being used from all four side the only way to close an app is to hold an app long in the App view & use the (X) that shows up after a few seconds
draw back compared to MeeGo's swype down i'd say
  • landscape mode is not supported by default, but maybe they'll build in some auto-rotate possibility for applications
which is in line with the default N9 behavior
otherwise, the landscape QWERTY hardware keyboard won't make much sense, now, would it?
it's going to be a long year...

No I am confused because people get confused about stuff that no one has said exists.

Jolla has NOT said there is hwkbd!
Jolla has NOT said there is USB3.0
Jolla has NOT promised PureView Camera
Jolla has NOT promised peace in world when phone get released.

Got damn stop have to much expectation from small company like Jolla.

About swipe down to close the reason this is not possible is probadly pullymenu. But I agree thats kind of an drawback.

1080p playback? That only makes sense if the screen is 1080p, which I doubt as it'd be too small anyway, _or_ you have another half that has HDMI [or equivalent] output and you can use your phone as a proper media player. For the latter, however, it stands to question how many people would actually do that, and whether that is Jolla's original target audience.

Also, most HW that can do more and faster can also drain your battery faster. I'd personally want a phone that lasts at least as much as the N9 does battery-wise, which isn't that great, but a lot better than pretty much anything else out there according to what I've seen and played with.

You mention games as well, tha'ts a good point, I'd still try to optimise HW for the screen resolution. Assume that's 720p, you probably don't want a GPU that powerful, or at least one that is cheap and can scale down gracefully. It is pretty obvious that most people like playing games, but not entirely sure that they want to have a console-like (or beefy PC like) gaming experience.

These are my opinions anyway ;-)

where does that "drawing" come from?
the video where Marc Dillon answers a few questions is somewhat older, but even during / shortly after "love day" plenty of time closing app was shown as pressing on the "app view" (any app?) for some time & then hit (X); on top of the screen appears a (Close all) button.
think it would be faster to close one app by pressing on it & swype down then this "holding for a few seconds" & press (X), no?
