Installed 0.5.6 and was playing around with the new battery features: switched to see the rate, opened the graph, closed the graph, closed the ASUI window... and the ASUI battery icon is blank. If I press it, the on/off icon displays and the window opens, but no battery display on the desktop.

Try turning off the battery applet and then turn it back on. It might not have restarted when you upgraded and the old binary isn't finding its icons since they were all replaced.

Very nice...just installed 0.5.6 and it seems to work well. This is definitely a very useful addition to Diablo community.

One question - is there a way to set it so that it can lock/blank with just a press of the power button, no secondary key needed? This would be be very convenient, and was the thing I loved about softpoweroff. (I tried leaving softpoweroff and ASUI running together, and it worked, but it had the side effect that ASUI would be displayed on unlocking unless it had been displayed at lock time. Meaning, that in many cases it would take 2 button pushes to get back to my application at unlock time.)
Or, alternatively, is there a way to set it so that if I unlock it (from softpoweroff) that the ASUI window doesn't automatically come up?

I see that "audio lock button that leaves keys unlocked to control audio volume and maybe playback" has been added to the to-do list. Can't wait...

Were you not using the SystemUI menu? I could add a setting that locks&blanks on power button press and if secondary unlock key is set to none you could press power button again to turn screen back on.

Only problem is that you'd have to use the battery applet, the ASUI app icon or the Telescope key combo to map ASUI to access its features. I'd probably use this feature, is it what you're looking for?

New ASUI and settings test binaries.
  • fix: short events should no longer disappear from the battery graph
  • hour and 24 hour tick marks on battery graph
  • charger events on battery graph
  • setting to lock&blank screen with power button instead of opening/closing ASUI

@ caimanjosh, enable the fourth option in button modes

No, I'd abandoned the regular System UI menu long ago in favor of the much-more-convenient softpoweroff.

Yes, I think that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm happy to access ASUI just by tapping the battery applet.

And wow, that was fast work! I downloaded the test binary (or at least I think I did) and the new checkbox appears to be exactly what I'm looking for. However, for some reason, even though it's checked, when I push the power button, it still just brings up the ASUI interface rather than locking/blanking. This is true after restarting ASUI, and after rebooting entirely. And one other thing I just noticed (in case it helps in troubleshooting)...with that new setting enabled, there seems to be a bit of a delay in getting to the ASUI screen after I push the power button. If I uncheck the new setting, this delay goes away.

Could it be I didn't install properly? To install the latest binaries, I went into xterm and (as root) ran these commands:

asui ds

asui dt

Neither reported any errors. Is there something else I need to do?

Did you also install the ASUI test binary after downloading it asui it ? If you use the settings icon you will also need to install the settings test binary asui is but if launched from inside ASUI then the downloaded copy will override the installed copy.

(asui dt;asui it;asui ds;asui is) is the best way to download and install both test binaries.

Indeed, installing it would help, wouldn't it.
Okay, after installing, it works as advertised. Very nice! I couldn't ask for better service.

Last thing for now...I was thinking about the possible functionality of how the "media player mode" (locked but with hw buttons working) might work, and it occurred to me that the most ideal scenario there would also involve having the screen turn on for maybe 2-3 seconds each time a button is pushed (but stay locked even while on). So, for instance, one might push a hardware key to increase the volume in media player, and at that time, the screen would turn on (though still locked) and one could glance at it and see what the current volume setting is. I don't know how easy this would be, but if it's possible, it'd be perfect. I noticed that now my screen briefly turns on (but stays locked) when headphones are plugged in/unplugged (due to ASUI, I believe?), so however that is done, maybe the same could be done for this?

Anyways, thanks!
