Well, you could do that from the tablet also

lol, I just read that thread after I posted. Still, it IS faster on the computer. No need to reboot the tablet 2 times (assuming you are running on SD), just once.

Well have you fsck'ed your partition lately? Anytime to boot from SD and you have a crash you should boot to flash and wait for the Linus wav to play, this indicates fsck is complete, then boot back to flash.

You can also see the output from the fsck in /tmp/fsck.txt

Try re-installing it, be sure virtual memory is off

I looked at fsck.txt. It says:
fsck 1.37 (21-Mar-2005)
/dev/mmcblk0p2 contains a file system with errors, check forced.
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Pass 2: Checking directory structure
Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity
Pass 4: Checking reference counts
Pass 5: Checking group summary information
/dev/mmcblk0p2: 27067/430272 files (0.1% non-contiguous), 131651/860160 blocks
fsck 1.37 (21-Mar-2005)
and the wav file plays well.
Could it be the speed of the card? How do I check that?
any advice is appreciated.
thanks.

Tell why would you clone/copy the os to the SD card and what happens to the flash install?

On a 2GB card, you need to use a fresh flash. If you install a bunch of apps there will not be enough space to finish KDEv2 installation. However once KDEv2 is installed, there will be about 330MB free.

1GB
1: 64MB FAT
2: 872GB EXT2 (BOOT)
3: 64MB SWAP

2GB
1: 128MB FAT
2: 1.75GB EXT2 (BOOT)
3: 128MB SWAP

4GB
1: 256MB FAT
2: 3.5GB EXT2 (BOOT)
3: 256MB SWAP

6GB
1: 384MB FAT
2: 5.255GB EXT2 (BOOT)
3: 384MB SWAP

8GB
1: 512MB FAT
2: 6.6GB EXT2 (BOOT)
3: 512MB SWAP

Penguinbait,

I have keep trying your install tools deb on a n800 internal 4GB card. Afterwards, the device storage is always 1.68GB which looks like the 2GB configuration above. But it appears that I should get about 3.5GB? Should I instead be using the manual config you refer to at http://tablethacker.com/wp/?p=151&lang=en-us#more-151 to get the right size?

Thanks.
