Problem - Loosing the call register

Hi Felipe,
I noticed that my phone is loosing the call log data recently. What happens is: When I have a missed call, the call register does not register any calls afterwards, whether out or in. Unistalled MyContacts and problem disappear. Any idea why and how?
To make things more clear for you, I use stock kernel, and other programs that might be effecting call register are: extended call log, call notify, catblock.. My intention was try to uninstall-install all of them in turn to find out which one causes this, started with MyContacts and it happened to be the one.
If you want me to do some more testing I am willing to do.

I normally use only the widget - which is AWESOME! So for me improvements there will be more useful. My main problem with the widget is that it doesn't load correctly number's type(e.g. mobile, home, work etc.) every time it reloads(after reboot or app update). So by double clicking on the contact icon in widget I end up calling not the mobile(default) number of the given contact, but some other number. So I have to remember to check all contacts after reboot and correct their numbers' type manually. I noticed one and same contacts get their numbers wrong, so it became an easier task, but none the less it is a nuisance.
zlatko:
There is one known issue with the "standard contacts app". When you you create a contact "by default" the address book will show phones as "cell" but when saving it will not save the "phone" as a "cell". Later, it shows on the "standard contacts" as cell but it won't be recognized by any other application using qt mobility (like mycontacts) as cell.

To fix the issue you just need to edit the contact on the "standard contacts application", change the phone type to "something else" and then back to "cell". You will only need to do that once per contact - restarting the phone should not affect this at all.

EDIT: this is the link to the bug

Yes, that is how I am solving the problem - by edit/save in built-in Contacts app. But every next time MyContacts is starting anew same phone numbers are not listed as "cell" in it and I have go through editing them.

I don't see how mycontacts could affect logging calls by itself. Even with other applications monitoring calls if they behave as expected there shouldn't be a problem.

MyContacts ONLY listen to the DBus signals and when needed will change a symbolic link to the ring tone file in order to have the phone play a different ring tone.

If you are willing to look for the reason behind this I would suggest a couple tests:
1. A very simple test is to reinstall mycontacts and disable the "call monitoring" service on the settings window. After restarting MyContacts it will not try to do anything with incoming calls. If for any reason your calls still don't get logged, it is either not an issue with mycontacts or it must be an issue with some other qt application - I can't even imagine how this could happen but...
2. Remove all these applications that you mentioned before that deal with phone calls/log and install mycontacts. I have to assume you won't have any problems with the call log. Install/remove one by one of the removed applications and test - the goal is to find which one is "interacting" with mycontacts.

Let me know how it goes.

I have to assume that you only have to fix each contact/phone number once, right?

What I mean is that once you fix the contact once you won't have an issue with the same contact again, even after rebooting. (Assuming that you don't use any other application to synchronize your contacts - this could cause the changes to be reverted back)

@fcrochik
No, I meant exactly the opposite - I have to fix this issue EVERY time I get my phone rebooted. And it is the same contacts that are loaded with wrong numbers' types.
What can be that other application synchronizing the contacts? Can you give me an idea so I can see what can be causing the problem?

Let's try something:
  1. reboot your phone
  2. find one contact that does not work on mycontacts (that the phone is not recognized as cell when it should)
  3. go to the "standard contacts" application, select the contact, select "send contact card" from the menu.
  4. send the contact card to your email address.
  5. on your email application save the attached vcf file somewhere and open it with a text editor
  6. edit the contact, change the phone type to "something else" and then back to "cell"
  7. send the contact card to your email
  8. compare the two files
  9. reboot the phone
  10. send the same contact to your email
  11. compare the 3 files.

Feel free to send me the 3 files for me to check.

You want me to compare the contact's card after reboot, after edit/save and reboot again? Below is the result(chronologically):
Code:

As you can see there ARE some differences in the order of the elements of the v-card, but the phone numbers are always listed with the same(correct) type.

Hey guys,

I just installed MyContacts... seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, but it segfaults on load:

Code:
43 user@glamb-n900 [~]$ /opt/crochik/mycontacts
backend changed to "maemo5"
reset skin
resource saved locally: "/home/user/.mycontacts/contact_landscape.css"
resource saved locally: "/home/user/.mycontacts/contact_portrait.css"
resource saved locally: "/home/user/.mycontacts/search_landscape.css"
resource saved locally: "/home/user/.mycontacts/search_portrait.css"
resource saved locally: "/home/user/.mycontacts/avatars.css"
resource saved locally: "/home/user/.mycontacts/selectcontact.css"
Redirect output to log file: /home/user/.mycontacts/log.txt
Segmentation fault
I straced it, and it seems to crash while mmap'ing something to do with gtalk; I do have two gtalk accounts registered, which may be somewhat out of the ordinary.

Anything else I can do to help debug?

I remember someone saying that there was an issue with Qt Mobility and more than one account of the same type... I think was a Qt Mobility issue and not constrained to mycontacts.

You can try disabling one of the accounts to see if this is indeed the issue. I would also try another application like Horizontal call or fastsms with the two accounts enabled in order to figure out if it is an issue with mycontacts or with applications that use Qt Mobility.

Please let me know of the outcome.
