The version numbers between Maemo and Symbian versions of Ovi Maps aren't really comparable. Ovi Maps 1.0 on Symbian had voice guidance for example.

I aksed this question directly at the meet last night. The response was that the OVI maps for symbian and OVI maps for Maemo are completely unsynchronised in their feature set so no direct comparison can be made based on release numbers. I suspect this is much like Mac and Windows software releases - different feature sets for the same release number but versions out of sequence with one another.

Hopefully that means "OVI maps for Maemo will have free turn-by-turn navigation".

Given that the procedure for downloading offline maps seems to be near-identical for N900 Maemo Maps as it is for S60 Ovi Maps 3.0 (http://www.maemopeople.org/index.php...ut_a_network_c), I have tentative hopes that the software is similar under the hood.

My first smartphone was the the Cingular 8525 by HTC which kept me busy for months I loved it because from shool to work to listining to musci, movies etc it was awesome( the only thing it couldnt do was print lol) and have been an adment smart phone user ever since... I could never go back to a reg phone after my first impresions with smartphones
Thanks for the compliment
I've been inside all day so I haven't yet tested the N900 as it should be perhaps. However, there are a couple of things I noticed very soon. The addition of haptic feedback is a case in point: by design it should be hardly noticeable in itself, but the overall effect of having a tiny vibration signal every time you touch the screen is such a leap forward in terms of user experience. Phone quality is good, which I was expecting actually.

I think bloggers and (p)reviewers covered most of the device and its software, so there is a very limited number of things I can think of that are worth mentioning -- let me know if you have any specific questions.

As to how the phone will impact my life... I have a sedentary life during the week and travel weekends. Being able to access the net from the bus or train will bring a massive improvement in these commutes. Mostly, though, it will be the little things, like going online in the uni cafeteria to look something up and prove a point

I would like to hear more about the gps receiver. Does it have a much better "cold start" time than the N810?
