It really seems you only came in here to be an arse. lcuk has been an asset to the maemo community for a long time now.

We are a community, and we help our own. We all want to see lcuk go to the summit, even people like me who are not attending. So I threw in what I could (which was not alot), I am really hoping nokia/maemo will cough up a little something something to help him out.

As for you silvermountain, its not something you would have done, OK. I personally see your post as completely tasteless and rather obnoxious..

I've popped a bit over. Not much I'm afraid. lcuk, you are a true contributing member of the community. I wish you luck and speed with your search for a new job.

There's a time and a place for everything... and this isn't the time or the place for this kind of post. It doesn't help.

silvermountain,

please don't get me wrong - I wasn't asking for pity about what I did.

I have known for 3 weeks this day was coming - like I said everything within reason was planned, I had made all the arrangements I possibly could have considering - it was merely an unexpected kick in the teeth.

I have spent the last couple of weeks applying for and talking with people regarding continuing development and work within the community - you didn't see me complaining loudly - I just got on with it pretty much as before.

As for the reasons well I requested a few days to finish the project, my boss was unwilling to give them me. It was the first time in 9 years when I had something more important than his work.

It was a decision whether I resign or get fired for missing the time, because this meant an awful lot to me and I was not about to let everybody down.
I still do not know what the future will bring, but I will try and know had I not completed the objective and gone to London I would have regretted it every single day of my life.

You guys, words cannot express how much the support you have given us means.
I know the community is the right place for me and will discuss tonight with Tracy, she has the key so I cannot tell whether this gap is closed though until later.

thank you all, I'll keep you updated.

You had the guts of doing a very thought choice and had the luck (lcuk ) of having your family with you.

I really regard you with esteem.

lcuk, I lost my job of 8 years (we wont get into that story) about 3 years ago. I was blind sided and dismayed. It took me about 30 days and I had a job making twice the old one. Generally if you have been working somewhere for 8-9 years, you are most likely worth more than they were paying you. I am sure you will be looking back on this as the best thing that ever happened to you. I can't wait to see what you bring us in the future and what the future brings for you.

Good thoughts and God Bless

While I agree that's not what not ideal in this economic climate he is taking a risk on his dream and just didn't see all the turns ahead (getting half a paycheck instead of one). But asking for donations is never tasteless when you need help. And if you don't want to see it as a donation look at it this way, here is a great guy on the maemo platform thatas innovative ideas and wants to bring interesting software and uses to Maemo and the Nokia devices. As a user of said products by supporting him, you also benefit from him not having to stress as much about getting bills paid, or how to feed his family. Giving him time to think, program, create, etc.

It's a model straight out of the Renaissance. :P

I agree - It's not charity, just delayed donations for his work

Sometimes a rash move is the way to find a path you wouldn't have found otherwise.

I quit a job I hated and started a chess web site in California. A few months later I had a job offer working with the chess world champion, Garry Kasparov, in Manhattan, which I of course accepted. A year later I moved to Moscow, and I spent six years as a chess journalist. It was an incredible adventure I never would have had without following my instincts instead of being prudent.

There is something called "positive paranoia" that many successful people have, and it is a good thing to cultivate. After a few impulsive moves that turn out well, you start to get the feeling that people are secretly scheming to help you. Everywhere you expect the situation to suddenly change in your favor -- and it does! You seem like exactly the sort of person who may turn this problem into the best thing you've ever done.

Good luck, lcuk.
