Nokia is screwed. In between other companies scooping up talented developers, developers getting ****** off at the state of the forum/community, and getting ****** off at Nokia for their usual behavior towards Maemo.

And that's only the developers. There's the long term maemo users (read: before the N900) who are fed up with the same things (I'm one of them). Seems like Nokia's goal is to start Meego with 0 of the people from the maemo platform. Or maybe that was their goal all along.

I appreciate what qwerty has done with Maemo, though I don' use any of his s/w personally I am aware and have known him from the beginning. Still, I don't understand rants like that, makes me think he's having some other personal issues. People come and go, some come back, some don't. I think these threads just serve as self-gratfication to the OPs. Whether they've been a member for a long while or not.

There is plenty of talent in the community, with or without qwerty. Good luck to him in the future, I just hope he grows up a bit in the mean time ...

This is pure sadness. Although i don't concur with all what he said.. he had some valid points. I would really like to know what the real reason and cause of this rant was. If it had a reason or that he just was fed up...

I really must say that i am amazed of what this community have been able to accomplice, despite all the closed blobs. I guess that is main reason of Qwerys rant. Nokia and it's inability to open up for development. The community have made this device to what it is today. Querty is one of the great contributor for this. But also a great tutor for me and others. I don't think i have learned and tested and tweaked so much in my life before as now when i got my n900. For me it is truly a great piece of equipment.

It is a sad sad day today and a big loss.. I wish this was just a drunken mishap and that he didn't leave for real. But i guess it is.

Did anyone else see this coming? You can tell from his tone in previous posts that he's been silently raging and building up to this point. His signature also had a hint he'll be departing for some time too. Guess he finally cracked

Farewell one of the most talented and greatest minds on these forums, hope you have success in what ever you pursue. Good luck.

ps: if i ever meet you on the street, i'll buy you a drink

Really? Apologists you say?

I wonder if that's how Nokia sees it:

now when you mentioned it, you are absolutely correct. I couldn't believe my eyes first and thought someone has hacked his tmo user account but after that passed it with a shrug....

Nah.. if qwerty has just bailed with a rant in a post and quit.. this would have been my instinct.

But look at what he did here: Qwerty actually did provide help to some people with a new software. He made an announcement for it and released it.

That was qwerty.. this signifies the type of person we lost here. He didn't just rant and hate on Nokia.. he actually provided something on his way out.

Unfortunately, his bitterness and poison has now been driven so deep that he crippled it to make a point (keeping it closed), and made it frustrating to use (if I understand right, because his rant pops up every time you run it? I haven't installed it to know for sure)

But still.. looking through that, and coupling with the fact the man has damn near 5000+ posts, you see the difference between someone like qwerty and just general ranters/haters. He put time, effort, and work into creating something that people wanted (if for nothing else at this point, proving it is possible to do if another talented developer wanted to take the project on and do it right) - and then gave it to the community. It serves as both his own personal F- You, but also satisfies the part of qwerty most of the old timers know from him: His constant drive to help people.

While I don't personally agree with all of his message, and especially not the delivery or tone it takes, as many here said he has several valid complaints in there. At the same time, I see something like this and my first thought is not, say, "troll." I am a big proponent of the fact that general attitude around this place has increasingly become negative and frustrating. So much so I've throttled back and don't check it as frequently. I also am one that gets annoyed at the vast number of "XYZ Sucks" and "Nokia Sucks" and whatever threads there are around here. But the method in which he did this one was a completely different ballgame in that he actually provided something tangible to accompany his frustration. Definitely a (slightly) more constructive approach to the problem.

Again, I am not saying I agree 100% with his comments (especially the ones very obviously directed at Texrat, whom I also have the utmost respect for.. and also is one of the only ones I'm getting his references too..) - I am just saying the way qwerty did this was in a way that is perfectly reminiscent of him. At least, in my opinion. So I believe this is definitely real.

I installed qwerty12's last contribution, because I trust him. Used apt-get and his bitter rant appeared only at the end of the install process.
Oh, and I don't fear any danger, because you can't judge someone on a moment of anger, but on some year's (virtual) knowledge. And I trust him.
