Everything is working well except I can't get FBReader to install. It installs well in the N810, but not in the N800. Will ask on the FBReader group. If I get it installed, it will fill my needs.

been reading a few books on it this last week...

the given settings are skewed I believe...
so you just need to change where fbreader looks for your books.

I believe it will state whether or not a version is the last and latest...in a column to the right...with either highlighting or red type or bold type...or something like that...
The version you mention above ^^ I believe is the correct latest and last nokian version. For the n800

I've tried with the catalog and the individual deb files so far. The N810 had no problem installing through the catalog. I'll keep trying until something works. I've used FBReader on the 770 for years. Really like the programmable keys, etc.

You will not gain anything by going back to the 2007 os ...
in fact...
I wouldn't use it unless the intention is for study of the 2007 os.
Using it will not net you greater or lesser functionality.
neither with issues pertaining to the 2007 os.
There was a reason why 2008 diablo 43-7 was done...
and there was a reason why cssu, asui, and diablo turbo was done.
It was to deal with lackings and issues on 2007 os

I would suggest you enable the proper catalogues in the app. man.
I would suggest you add gronmayers meta catalogue after deleting the existing catalogues and disabling the ones that are nokian.
I would suggest making sure you enable the 2008 catalogues of gronmayer. use the "install all" button
I would suggest going into the app man drop down tools catalogue settings and after waiting very patiently for alllllll the catalogues to update properly...disabling the n900 backport catalogues...and disabling the nonfunctional catalogues or delete them.
The app man will then be a bit faster updating...since it will not be trying to update broken catalogues...
And actually you should always be patient with the app. man. when letting it update...let it do it's thing...don't rush it.
Remember the ability of the n8x0 is still on par with a pentium 2 (if memory serves...) so for some things a little patience is needed..
especially when there is a huge list of catalogues that the system is trying to update and the scads of downloadable stuff in each catalogue also updating (let alone the system trying to resolve the list of broken catalogues ...if you have not disabled them...)
So it isn't that the n8x0 is tardy or slow or whatever.
It's sorting and dealing with a ton of information.
So when mucking about in the app man after installing and enabling gronmayer's ...be patient. Let it do it's thing... before taxing it more.
Or ...and people please listen here...
Or you will end up with needing to shut down and restart...
and then have to go back into the app man...

Let it process what last command you asked it to process...before asking more of it.
Otherwise the app man will rebel...
and it won't show the catalogues or their contents... properly if you are lucky.
and you'll be doing alot of time-wasting restarting...
going back to what you were trying to do.

If done properly you should have no problem installing fbreader properly and running it properly from the app. man.

fb reader repository is a failed catalogue for starters.
As I said
I suggest utilizing the gronmayer meta catalogue
as per the link in my signature.
Following pertinent advice.
and then after all is done properly..
you should have no prob installing fbreader.
If you want to track fbreader specifically to it's functioning catalogue ..inside gronmayer's site....it is your call...
I can't say that will be a time saver.
when it is quicker to just to one button install them all.

I suggest looking underneath the section "gone but salvageable"

fb reader repository is gone...but salvageable ....
if the catalogue were to be functional ...
some work needs doing.

fb reader is available though...
just not from that specific catalogue.

By downloading all the repositories on gronmayer, I was able to install fbreader. Thanks.
Downloading the FBReader repository alone would not work.

FOLLOW the walkthroughs.
To what ever degree ...
fully.
partially....even...for those not interested or feel that it is all too much...
But follow the walkthroughs.

Whatever the issue is...
readi and apply the walkthroughs will solve new people's problems.
More advanced specific "in-app" issues are a different matter and are very localized and / or advanced....In which case help may be needed.
Otherwise...
There are the walkthroughs AND video walkthrough tutorial.
It doesn't get easier.
The increased ability and functionality from doing them is worth it.
I spent a great deal of time making the entirety of learning... "new person oriented"... friendly.
So a person wandering in to maemo talk for the 1st time ever...could do it.
No special learning or skill needed.

Follow the walkthroughs people.
The walkthroughs were done to avoid confusion and issues for new people...
in fact most known and unknown device issues are solved for new people by properly following the walkthroughs...

They are so easy, thorough and comprehensive...
from start to finish...
that...
if help is needed...
help should pertain to physical device issues..(ports, batteries, etc)...
or something beyond the basics of what is covered in the walkthroughs...

So all new n8x0 people ..
do the walkthroughs 1st.

If there is a problem in understanding any part of the walkthroughs..
I can help in the clarity of the instructions...

Then when devices are set up properly...
if there are still issues...
ask me or another for help..
