50% of people tell me 5 minutes is too long and 50% tell me its normal, I guess the only way to find out if it's and hardware issue is to put my phone in the exact location as another n900 and see what happens

A working SIM card makes the fix in many cases faster

The gps hardware in the N900 and N810 is sub-standard. The reason why I never bought an N810 is because of its lack of a decent gps receiver. My external blue tooth gps gets a lock in about 40 seconds using my N800.

Ovi map is NOT good, but it is still very useful in my several trips in using it. It tracks well and idenfied your location very well, and give you a route, an idea, to confirm it. Its problem is gps locking. Ovi map has been useful for me. Just like anytool, one has to learn to use it.

That was before the PR1.1 update. Its use was cumbersome, but it is useful.

the one without a sim card is the N95 and it's working perfectly.

Check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoCNRreLPYE

This video shows a comparison between the N97, N900 and the 5800 Xpress Music. Considering the date the video was submitted, the N900 must be of the early ones given before release, but this shows it can pick up a fix "normally".

@Weberdee: you can find location test gui here: http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...+0m5_armel.deb

but read this bug report first: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7026

I was testing with location test gui over last night I left nokia on charger and working overnight to try to lock/fix only in GNSS mode (GPS only without internet). N900 finds 1 sat with 25 dbHz signal strenght but wont lock. Now if I turn AGNSS (AGPS) on and try again it finds 9 - 12 sats and locks withing 5 mins using 5 sats

Thanks smps. The problem I have is I'm only getting "course accuracy". I thought I'd use location test to give me an idea if the gps was working at all.

How exactly do I install location test? I have no experience with xterm.

its in devel-extras repostiroy , you can "install" that repostiroy and from app. manager install location gui or install it manualy.

you have repos here: http://repository.maemo.org/ point your n900 browser to repostiroy and click on "install" or if you want manual install download locationgui .deb file with pc to your n900 and from xterm do this (as root):

dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/path_to_deb_file
