So i decided to upload 1.8.0 to my repository. (Should be ready in a few minutes, just update your application manager then.)

Please keep in mind that the new version is not 100% stable also (as i said above, it crashed if you open the filechooser a second time in one session), please report other bugs you discover here.

Maybe i can spent some time to fix the filechooser-issue in the next days, but dont expext to much work from me in the next weeks.

I installed via thread#22, 1.8.0-1chinook3 and the green install button, both showed libpcre3 needed. I then installed maemo haeker, http://www.gronmayer.com/it/, it then installed without issue. It works. only hardware button fullscreen/zin/zout not working, use the View to get around. Thanks Chelli,

Chellie, thanks so much for your efforts here. The easy answer is, of course, no, but I did try and indeed, the new version still has bugs, alas. I know this is a labor of love for you, so I just want to say thanks again. This is one of those 'must-have' apps for me (I do inventory with my IT..or will, when Gnumeric is stable again

BTW if there was a way to contribute, I'd do it

Cheers

Thanks Bun, for your observations. I too was able to install it without issue, but, sadly, mine still has the same 'issues' as 1.6.3. You didn't encounter the cell-formatting issue?

Re-reading Chelli's post I realized that we may still be a few weeks aways from a working version.

I install gnumeric from fresh. I just upgraded to 2008Os and slowly inputting my buddy pgms one at a time. As in previous post, the only problem was my maemo.hackers was not installed. Other than that I encountered zero problem.

quoted from Rebski's post,

Just as a guide, the list may not be complete:
Cells formatted as Date: OK
Cells formatted as Text and containing Text: OK
Cells formatted as Text and containing Numbers: Scientific Notation
Cells Formatted as Currency: All shown as Zeros
Cells Formatted as Numbers: All shown as Zeros
Cells Formatted as General and containing Numbers: Scientific notation.

I dont have Currency in my spreadsheet. My spreadsheet is NOT small, it has 3600 x k Cells, contains mainly text and numbers. Dates I entered as text. No formula are used. I only use " ' " this formating character and the whole spreadsheet upgraded from 2006Os to 2007Os now 2008Os with no problem. I am sorry for what you guys encountered. Well, BTW, I do not save into gnumeric formats. I always save to Excel and load from Excel format. My experience, it loads 3X - 4X faster from excel then from gnumeric.

This is the 2nd time I installed it, the previous time see thread #28, also has no problem.

I have just uploaded a new version of Gnumeric 1.8.0 which should fix the crash when opening the "File -> Open" dialog a second time in one session. (So it should now have more or less just the same issues like Gnumeric 1.6.3.)

Please note: I do not intend to do any updates for Gnumeric 1.6.3 because it is very old, 1.8.0 is the new stable version of Gnumeric (although it is not offically announced yet ), the patch needed to modify the Gnumeric-Sources for Maemo is very small for 1.8.0 because most party are allready included in Gnumeric - the patch for 1.6.3 was very huge, which means that supporting 1.8.0 on maemo is much less work compared to supporting 1.6.3, the very outdated version.

Regarding the formatting issues: I checked it again and you are right, it is still there, verfied with a file in created in Gnumeric on my Desktop-PC, saved as .xls-file -> wrong formating, saved as .gnumeric -> everything fine.

When i start Gnumeric from xterm, there are some signs that i can not convert the file from codepage 1252 to UTF-8, see yourself:

Code:
Reading file:///home/user/MyDocs/.documents/test.xls
gnumeric[5923]: GLIB WARNING ** default - Unable to open an iconv handle from codepage 1252 -> UTF-8
gnumeric[5923]: GLIB WARNING ** gnumeric:read - missing convertor for codepage 1252
falling back to 1252
gnumeric[5923]: GLIB WARNING ** default - Unable to open an iconv handle from codepage 1252 -> UTF-8
Excel 97 +
So at least it is more or less clear where i have to look to find a fix, i hope i can spend a few hours on this issue next weekend.

I think I found the reason for the broken installs reported here earlier on. I had the same and hhad to uninstall 'xournal' first. This uses s 'libart-2.0' while gnumeric requires libart-2.0-2.
unfortunately it did not fix the reported number issues. My .xls files don't work at all....

I am unable to download the install .deb... the download hangs every time at about the 20% mark! Maybe you should upload it to garage or some other well known repository?

I have been using the Gnumeric 1.8.0 for a few weeks, everything was fine, including loading and saving, no formating problems at all. For some reason, it showed up today. And is very interesting. The spreadsheet loads fine uptill the data I entered yesterday, i.e., it loads everything right uptill the last couple of entries which were entered via PC and transferred to the N800. I dont know what I did to the N800 to trigger this. Anyhow, I have NOT been able to make it load right any more. Now I either enter data directly into the N800, which is pain in the rear end, or entered via gnumeric 1.6.3 on a PC and save it as .xls and txf to the N800, so far it works.

Morning all,

I agree that Gnumeric is one of the must have apps. Being a newbie, I did come across something with the new version and OS2008. When I had the older version installed on my N800 under OS2007, there was a way to make all of the sheet tabs viewable in a multi-page workbook.

With the new version, I have found the manage sheets dialog, but this is cumbersome to use, at least to me, in order to bring up individual sheets. I have a number of workbooks with multiple pages that I like to keep with me for reference. I would prefer not to go back to the 1 sheets per workbook age.

So, am I missing a setting somewhere? Or was this intentionally disabled or removed from the source?

Any and all help and comments would be appreciated.

Thanks and best regards.

Chelli works on it. We must wait.

I have now install OS2008 on a SD Card and will try to install tomorrow OS 2007 in flash again. I hope, that works. So i could use the better performance in Internet and and USB-connectivity with OS2008 and Gnumeric and DOC-Reader e.g. *.xls and *.doc-support with OS2007.
