Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but after installing Canola2 on OS2008, it isn't detecting any playable media on my N800 - no audio, no video, no photos. It has the right folders listed under the media library, but it doesn't seem to be scanning them or doing anything else with them. The user interface is so sparse that there doesn't seem to be anything to adjust.

Canola1 was working fine for me on OS2007, and the standard media player plays the audio and video ok.

I've read over all the FAQs and messages I can find, but I don't see anything like this problem. Is there an unstated dependency? e.g., does it need mplayer installed? (haven't done that yet).

what are the media file types as Canola2 beta at this stage has very limiited support i.e. mp3 & avi only.

Otherwise it sounds like scanner is not scanning correctly. You have definately made sure that the required folders are being watched by that eye symbol under the settings option?

do check the threads in new Canola sub forum at ITT under apps and post your question again there if you are still having problems!

It might have the folders listed but check the eye symbol again, I bet they need to be unchecked..... if the files worked on Canola 1 I cant see why they wouldnt work on v2.

That's it! Thanks guys, the signifance of the tiny eye icons with the little stroke through them was lost on me. I have no idea why they all defaulted to scanning disabled - that seems like a dumb installation default for a media program. I clicked them several times, as I clicked everything I could see, but I didn't notice them changing (and it doesn't seem to like any of my avi files, so no playable video media were found anyway the one time I accidentally got it to scan the removable card).

I still can't get it to see my UPNP server though. Does Canola2 support UPNP servers?

If you had used Canola 1 when the scanner would appear to lock up the device for periods, you would appreciate this. It means every user needs to specify which folders to watch on first use of Canola though. (Note: I commented to Canola team that the eye icons were very small and users may get confused initially )

Not yet, patiently waiting for the feature, using Media Streamer application in the interim as its become recently available for OS 2008

That would be reasonable for a program that lets you open files explicitly, but not for one with a user interface so sparse that it shows no content unless you have scanned something. A simple option would of course be to put up a prompt on first run asking if you want to scan. If the user says "No", and then doesn't find any content, they'll make the connection.

Thanks!

Hi Djames,

yes we heard not only you but the others, that the icon is not only small but is not clear enough. this will be changed, I think even a more animated / colorful button will be added (and bigger) but the point is :

We really scanned everything and this was the major complain in the Canola1. We knew people would also complain when we removed that, but I think placing a wizard in the first usage will be the best way to go. I think we can "open the media library" and ask the user to select the folders of each media"

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the simple problem : / I take this one fully on me =) promise to improve in the next update!

Marcelo
