I would like to use your spreadsheet. But when I unzip it & open it in Excel, Excel says macros have been disabled because security is high. I tried the Excel help facility, but it is beyond my ken to grok it.

Is there an easy way around this? TIA

I'm sure Microsoft has invented new and wackier ways of doing everything in later versions of Excel, but in my Excel 2003 you can change macro security levels under menu item Tools - Macro - Security. My security level is normally set to Medium, which warns that a spreadsheet contains macros when you try to open it, but allows you to go ahead if you say Yes.

One other note: I adapted this from an earlier spreadsheet I used for converting between GPX and KML formats for my GPS, and I guess it still has some invisible "Data Validation" rules embedded in the Excel sheet.

This is how to get rid of them:

- Select the entire sheet (click the upper left header cell as a shortcut)
- Select from the Excel main menu Data - Validation.
- It will tell you that there is more than one type of Validation in the selected cells and offer to clear the validation rules from all of them. Say Ok, and then apply the default validation rule "Any value" to all cells.

Alternative to GPE Contacts / built in Contacts...(Sort of)

After following this and several other threads on importing Contacts onto the N8x0, I have given up....

But, I have found a cludge of a work around: Gene Cash's InfoOnTap.

Once you have your Contacts in a CSV file, EXPORT / SAVE AS --> HTML.

This HTML file can then be imported into InfoOnTap fairly easily & quickly. (Menu-Admin-Import from HTML).

I am now Just having to tweak the tables so that they have the contacts organized to my liking.

I hope this helps. At least it is another option until someone with programming skills can make a true Contact Manager that plays nice with importing VCF,CSV files.

Has anyone else gotten this to work? As soon as I select my html file, the application (Info On Tap) closes. I've tried several different sizes and pared it down to just a few entries, but it still crashes.

Let me share my solution to this problem...

I simply installed GPE Contacts in Ubuntu (should work for any other linux distribution on your desktop). Then I imported my vcf file in my desktop GPE Contacts (the same one I tried to import on my N800 in GPE without success). Copied file /home/yourusername/.gpe/contacts through ssh to /home/user/.gpe and voila all my contacts were finally where they belong

Hope this helps.

I am not so linux savy, I tried a few things. Eventually I exported to gmail, and then exported to my n800. I've had to do some clean-up.

I have read thru this topic and I have found only one solution that works for me.

I am trying to import from Google contacts to N800 GPEcontacts with no success. The spreadsheet solution looks great but my Office 2007 gives me visual basic error when I open the XLS. I tried Open Office but nothing happens when I click on Import. I did find the before mentioned utility (zsynch, I think) now named SynchWiz which will import 5 contacts each time it is run, did work. I also learnd from SynchWiz that vcard format 2.1 is needed and not to use any encoding options. That worked for me. With this information is anyne able to recommend a low cost solution for me?
