I'm triying my best to get the courage to try this but one question, does the the SD card have to be 2GB? planning on buying a 4+GB SDHC card will this type of card be ok?

First thanks to penguinbait for this very cool development. I just have a few notes I wanted to add to the stream. This may be obvious to some, but reading some of the problems people are having, I think these points are worth making.

For n810 users:
1. Your removable memory card is mmc1
2. Your internal (nonremovable) memory card is mmc2
3. If you are using wayfinder <blech> the maps need to stay on internal (mmc2 card. So you will probably not be able to fit KDE in there.
4. @migs you can use any size card 2GB OR bigger.
5. Don't forget to delete the .deb and KDE.tar files, they are wasted space once your done.

@Penguinbait: Thanks again this great. I tested your distro with a dual boot setup and with the new deb setup. I did not have a problem with fonts in mini-moz in either one. I don't think I did anything different than everyone else, but all seems to be well. There is one problem: on the n810 running the latest version of OS2008, after installing the deb KDE distro. One run KDE sound is fine, when I exit back to hildon desktop, sound is gone. If I go back into KDE sound remains gone. Only a reboot helps.

Hello again. As a follow up to my last post, I wanted to mention how I have been using KDE. If anyone has any other good setups, I would love to hear about them.

With KDE running so well and allowing for such a powerful little desktop, I have separated my functional usage of my tablet (n810). I removed all of the other utility tools that I previously installed in maemo. This included wget, iptraf, kismet, etc. These are all now installed in my KDE environment, so why duplicate? I now have maemo as streamlined as possible with only media and communications tools like canola2, gpesuite, phonelink, etc.

When the tablet is in my pocket, it is running the standard maemo desktop. My everyday usage is videos, podcasts, maps, meeting notes, internet, etc.

Whenever I want to do anything more powerful, I just switch over to KDE for a while and use all the more advanced programs, When I am done I switch back.

I feel separating everything into two "camps" really lets me take advantage of the best properties of each desktop. Maemo=fast/simple KDE=powerful/still pretty fast

I had a problem while installing kde-mmc2 because I had no space left on flash. I tried to remove kde-mmc2, it failed saying the package had to be reinstalled. With --force-remove-reinstreq, the package didn't removed because it couldn't remove some files in /etc (/etc/nss_mdns.conf, /etc/cups/cups.conf.default and others, but I stopped here ; I had to do a "while true; do touch /etc/nss_mdns.conf; done" so the package can remove the file, else it removes it twice, but since the second time the file doesn't exists, it stops). Trying to reinstall it drives to the same issue.
I had to remove anything relative to kde in /var/lib/dpkg/status so I can reinstall the package. Now unpacking ; I hope I have enough space :-)

Odd, Everytime I try to install Kde-3.5.8-mmc2, it asks me to update it, and then fails to update. Any ideas? (N800, os2008, installing it on internal SD)

I am having the same problem as bloodangel. It will say that or it will say (almost immediately) that is was "unable to install." This is getting very frustrating because I have reflashed the '08 OS coming up on four times and it just will not work. Any ideas??

I actually switched the card that I had the stuff on to the external slot just to see what would happen and now it says the card is corrupted. Weird.
