Sorry to hijack this thread about EventGhost. Mystick is going to start another thread so we can continue our discussion.

But I still have my question as to why Irreco didn't start up. Does anyone have an idea, or a log or something I can check.

Thanks,

J

Have you watched the videos at http://irreco.garage.maemo.org

They should tell you how to setup Irreco.

If you want to get a full log of what Irreco is doing, you should run the following command in Utilities -> X Terminal:

irreco -d 9

A plugin for EventGhost could be written for Irreco that sends commands over the network. There is an option in eventghost for a tcp/ip listener program. Having Irreco send commands to the webserver plugin would work also. Irreco would just have to sent http requests to the correct ip address and port. Using Irreco might solve the problem I have with having to click the volume button many times instead of just holding it down also.

I recently purchased an IguanaWorks USB IR transceiver ($45 to my door). If any of you are OpenWrt enthusiasts, I have it controlling a Time Warner DVR (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD) through my Linksys WRTSL54GS running a Kamikaze 7.09/2.6 variant. If and/or when I get irreco talking to the router's lircd I'll post some notes/debs/Makefiles/etc. This should be much friendlier than using irsend.

I recommend all hardware and software mentioned above.

I have got a problem while starting irreco:

Code:
tablet:~# irreco -d 9
irreco: error while loading shared libraries: libxmlrpc_xmlparse.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm running OS2008 on my n800.

Yeah, I had the same problem. The chinook repositories have different versions of libxmlrpc-c3. Not sure which one I have, but I got the missing libraries from the debian lenny armel target of libxmlrpc-3. Someone needs to sort this out.

Hm, what a pity
I was really wild about the telnet feature to remote control my vlc.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
In the meantime I will continue using the webinterface which vlc also provides

Well, if you're feeling bold you can download my attachment to /tmp and type the following:

Code:
sudo tar xzf /tmp/libxmlrpc-c3-missing.tar.gz -C /
irreco should run after this. If so, close the program after you get rid of the initial dialogs and type the following:

Code:
sudo chown -R user:users /home/user/.irreco
irreco should now be able to save your changes.

If any of the above is beyond your abilities I suggest you file a bug report here.

Thanks to the irreco group. Except for the stuff mentioned above, I've had an excellent experience. Connecting to my router's lircd was just about point-and-click. This app is likely going to be 2nd only to the browser. I'm still in shock that my remote's lircd funtionality was waiting for me at remote editing. Isn't that kinda sad?

For anyone who's interested, I've posted my OpenWrt lirc and iguanaIR Makefiles over at the Kamikaze forum under this same handle. The iguanaIR Makefile is a little half baked, but it can get a tinkerer where they want to go. Phase I.
