First off...getting Canola 2 Beta 3 to even allow you to point the medial library to certain folders is a TOTAL pain. Looks like you have to know where the super secret points on the buttons are to click to open media and to add the checkmark to match that specific media. They have the click point about 2 pixels wide, in the lower right hand "corner" of the eye button (yes ...its a circle and has no "corner"....I know), or the lower right hand corner pixel of the folder icon.
Photo's FINALLY work....but took me longer to point to the media library on the cards, AND make the changes stick (issue # 2), than to actually feel inspired to Oooh and Ahhh at the photo's....more like Cripes and Doh !
I'll call this Alpha 3....painful

Hi... just a little feedback about video selection and management on Canola Beta 3.

The default behavior seems to be a vertical list, complete with video thumbs (assuming you also installed Canola tuning), and it might be nice if the management/display of videos were similar to the music browsing functionality.

For example... when you are browsing through albums in your music collection, you may see a page with a fairly complete list of album covers (first link)... or in the context of a particular album, you always a previous/next album cover (second link), and the navigation is fairly straightforward.

See linked images...

and

whereas when you are browsing your video collection... if you have more than four video thumbnails... you don't see anything beyond four thumbnails and titles, and 'swiping' to scroll up or down isn't necessarily jumping to obvious previous or next videos in the list.

Hopefully my description of the behavior is clear... and that it would be nice to have the previous/next functionality in the video thumbnails list... in a manner that is similar to the music/album browsing.

Hi Munky,

Can you tell us the name (size in letters that is giving problem )? we didn't face that.. so help us reproduce.

It's very important that people wanting help / suggesting things understand that it doesn't help just to say " why this.." and try to detail the happening as much as possible.

well , any song title that has to scroll is what does it. example of what happens: i select "call me when you're sober" by evanescence to play, goes to now playing , song title scrolls once then never comes back , so all that is displayed is artist and album title.

Does artist and album scroll? It doesn't seem to scroll for "Super Smash Brothers Brawl OST"

Strange, it should come back. It's "set" to: if name is bigger than space, scroll it, and after one loop, stop.
Artist and album do not scroll. All 3 info scrolling at the same time would be more a mess than something useful.

That's what he's describing above.
He most likely doesn't have metadata tags, so the name is the filename, and artist/album are empty. Correct?

Hi Shack, sorry but canola shouldn't be working like that. The hit area is actually bigger then the ball, (takes a whole square there). We have strict guidelines on how small a button should be, and if needed we increase it.

So, it seems a) either your screen is not calibrated, or b) you have a problematic install.

but the point is: media configuration will be done by a wizard because we really think is pain.

But... FIRST OFF ..using the same irony and sarcasm you are using:
How in earth do you really think it works this way and this is not a bug? Do you think we are crazy?
"Let's put a hit area here.. 2 pixels wide EHEHEH let's scr*** the user lol"

So please, instead of gratuitous irony, report the error, that we will fix if it's a canola mistake, and help if it's not.

Thanks for the irony-loaded comment / bug report even with that. it will be taken into account.

BR

Hi slvr32: I think i understood you correctly, and it would be nice if we could make sure people have video thumbnails. We do want to integrate it but it only happens today if you have mplayer. Of course the same with music.

The idea is nice, and I will for sure put into consideration once we advance with the application, I think this can be added after the final release!
