I don't have any problems with the nokia n810 stylus, other than not having them anymore. Since I use my tablet a LOT, and mostly while not at home it's important to use that stylus since it fits in the device (meaning I don't have to carry it separately from the tablet).

Try using that kwikscript program for awhile and your fingers start to tell you the stylus is too short, assuming you have hands the size of mine, anyway.

I too am down to the backup stylus that came in the box. I am promising myself that I am going to make really sure I put it back in the slot. That will last about two more months maybe.

So, just for fun I emailed Nokia to see what they said.....

The only question I have is why don't they know where I can buy them and why I have to look for them....

Nokia's Reply:

Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.

We understand your inquiry in regards to obtaining a replacement stylus for your Nokia N810 Internet Tablet.

At this time, Nokia does not sell the styluses separate from our devices. We regret if this causes any inconvenience.

We recommend checking with local wireless dealers or doing a web search to see if you can obtain a Nokia stylus for your Nokia N810 Internet Tablet.

Use only batteries, chargers, and enhancements approved by Nokia for use with the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. The use of any other types may invalidate any approval or warranty, and may be dangerous.

We hope you find this information helpful and regret any inconvenience.

I've emailed numerous resellers within the Netherlands that have a replacement stylus for the n810 in packs of three on their website, but either they only sell to resellers or don't answer email asking if they'll ship to the US.

I've also been essentially battling with Nokia customer service over email going back and forth about this. They say Nokia doesn't sell them, but it's clear they do, just THAT person is unaware of it.

I've asked them time and time again for two things 1) the name of ANY retailer within the US that has the ability to order parts from them and 2) the part number. Each time, the representative comes up with a different reason not to answer the question or rephrase that Nokia simply doesn't sell them.

I've never seen a customer support group so unwilling to lift a finger to help. Do they really think they're doing a good job at maintaining customer loyalty if they can't even provide replacement 2 cent stylus for purchase to a customer that shelled out $400 for their product?

I've basically decided I'm just going to keep pestering them until they get annoyed enough and hopefully just send me the name of a retailer or better yet, just drop one in an envelope and send it to me.

Once I have one, I'll probably have to fabricate a duplicate since they're being such a "stick in the mud" on making them available.

Anyone know the name of the VP in charge of customer support for Nokia USA.

A few polite but clearly upset letters from customers/group members addressed directly to him. Would have some effect. Usually secretaries/PA that open such letters respond to multiple letters complaining about the same problem. Where as the customer no service folks on the end of the phone never even pass the complaints on.

This is the approach Clark Howard (Radio consumer advocate) always suggests for such customer service issues.

If the VP in charge of customer support isn't aware of this problem after more than a year and a half's steady complaints on this issue, someone could go through all threads mentioning "stylus" and select the ones that discuss this issue and send them to him. I'm pretty sure there are more than a hundred but less than 500 complaints just on this site.

Nokia doesn't care about its customers, this issue alone makes it obvious. It would have cost them virtually nothing to solve this problem, yet they are not interested.

After speaking on the phone (yet again) with Nokia customer service and continue attempts at escalating the issue, they continue to claim that Nokia does not sell parts for any of their devices to end users. Further, they couldn't even confirm that they sell parts to distributors or resellers. Huh? Who are they fooling. After continuing to apply some pressure, they finally agreed that it (might) be possible that Nokia sold parts somewhere in the world, but wouldn't go any further than that. OMG!

I finally think I managed to get at least a postal address out of them to a location where they (claim) deals with customer problems. The postal address they gave me was: Nokia, 4630 Woodland Corp. Blvd, Suite 100, Tampa FL 33614.

The site "http://www.tessco.com" appears to sell every internal part to an N810 individually, including the stylus for $4.60 each, but there's a catch --you have to buy $125 worth. So I was basically ready to DO that, then turn around and sell all but one or two at cost in order to get a replacement stylus or two. But I can't. It turns out they only sell to retailers. Great. Guess it's time for a letter writing campaign to that postal address to attempt to describe my level of dissatisfaction with Nokia and their customer service. For the life of me though, I can't imagine how they think that not providing replacement parts for their customers devices promotes any type of customer loyalty.

Keep in mind that that stylus is probably produced for Nokia in some (non-Nokia owned) Chinese factory, who have the molds; presence of more styli just like it does not indicate that Nokia sells it...

Not saying whether they should or shouldn't make them available, but the assumption that Nokia does sell them is not really valid.

The question is whether Nokia can ask that Chinese factory to manufacture a few thousand more styluses and offer them for sale for a reasonable price (or simply mail them at no charge on request). My bet is that Nokia has enough clout to accomplish this. It just doesn't care.
