Of note, both the N810 and N800 have been much higher up in the rankings in the past.

Who wants to bet meanwhile's got some money riding on the results here?

Thats my experience with the N8x0-owners I know. They dont think of this device as a geek-toy. They use it for web-browsing, RSS and email, maybe skype. They're always surprised when they see different software on mine but in the end dont care enough to install it themselves.

Thats why the perception of the NITs being "geek-toys" that need much UI-refinement before they can reach a broader audience always makes me smile a little. Maybe its only because most people here are geeks and forgot how content normal consumers can be with what they have.

I think it shows, though, that Nokia failed miserably in establishing end user compatible channels for distributing software. But thats a completely different topic.

Curious; I see no mention of the TV out functionality in that thread, or in the linked article. AFAIK, we didn't know about that till the noBounds video. Or did I miss something?

I ve been following texrat's comments just to read his mind(which is pretty tough i must say!!) and believe me that comment was in relation to the nobounds project thread.

Nokia's reputation isn't especially good on truth telling - I remember that they got caught hyping early NGage numbers in the UK (using exactly the tactics that I've mentioned). A good rule of thumb is that if you're not important enough to have a reason to lie, then you're not important enough to know the truth, unless it's a direct part of your job.

I also remember a scandal where Nokia tried to punish analysts and journalists who wrote unpleasant things about the company by banning them from conferences, etc, making it impossible for them to do their jobs, and effectively blackmailing the others into posting positive PR for the company... So, yes, I treat anything Nokia says with some skepticism. (They're not alone in this: oh, the stories I could tell you about 3D card manufacturers!)
I personally believe that nokia is one of the most honest companies out there.

Could'nt agree more.

Maybe it is a different perception in the states?
In the UK, all the big phone companies have spent the last 10-15 years squabbling, digging, massaging figures and doing anything else they could do to get people to buy phones.
I have had nokia phones for over a decade now, with only occasional dips out to other companies, but I certainly wouldn't rate them as being noticeably more honest than any other company out there.

Sorry, I thought you pulled that quote of mine from the NoBounds thread.

Working for a company gives one a very unique perspective. I've worked for many companies and this one is certainly the most honest, generally, of the bunch. By far.

Man, you are REALLY hung up on this dishonesty bit! Wow. I relenquish my cyncism crown-- I suddenly look like the Mary Poppins of optimists!

Anyway, it would have been hard to lie to me about certain numbers given my intimate involvement with the N800s. I had my little rat claws on... well, many.

I know that Nokia sold one N810. And it's in my pocket. The rest of you could be figments of my imagination!!
