Ha. Funny thread. While I agree with the sentiments expressed in the O/P, the story behind the post is deeply ironic.
The O/P is referring to this thread about getting VLC working, specifically this post.
Ironically, the thread that triggered it all is actually a very poor example of the "prick" behavior sondjata is complaining about. In fact, when the details are examined, it could possibly make... um.. someone else look a bit of a fool.
The VLC thread-starter, bdogg64, the guy who posted links to the files, has not participated in these forums for months. He therefore is not around to update his original post. In fact, the links on his post have been dead for a long time.
Some unrelated folks who are interested in getting VLC working picked up the ball recently and, one thing lead to another and a very helpful guy posted a link to a new version on page 7 or 8 of the thread. This version is pretty experimental and not really working in the sense that you can use it for video playback. It was specifically hacked to stream video from the camera over the Internet (which, by the way, is very exciting for me).
This is all important context, because the VLC being discussed currently in that thread is unrelated to the VLC at the beginning of the thread, and it is fairly obvious when reading the posts on the last few pages that this isn't the same VLC and it isn't for general consumption.
Perhaps we should have moved our conversation to another, new thread, with a new title and lots of warnings and context to let people know what was going on. But I personally think the "search the thread, I'm not going to give you the link" comment that generated this outburst was not entirely off-base in this case. Some reading and research should have been done here.
I also think that starting a thread with this title is somewhat inappropriate.

Well actually, I thought it was rude for a number of reasons.
A) The assumption that one didn't look at any other page on the thread.
B) The assumption that any person, especially new persons, may have known that the originator of the subject had long left the building.
C) The assumption that when a thread goes to be 50 million comments that one ought to be crassly told to go through potentially all of them to find a single hyperlink.
That last one is what made it "Prickable" in my book...
...lastly, the offending poster, knew he was being a prick and said so. purposely being a prick gives other people the right to call you one too.
