For easier readability, next time just (or also) give output of
'cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list'

But it seems like you are missing the tools repo.
Code:
# apt-cache showpkg libslang2
Package: libslang2
Versions:
2.0.6-4osso1+r1 (/var/lib/apt/lists/repository.maemo.org_dists_fremantle_tools_free_binary-armel_Packages)
One more reason I would like to see changelog!

I don't think a package in extras should depend on the tools/sdk repos

It is too bad that there is still not an easy click to install list of repos in the wiki, I have never even heard of the tools repo.

(edit) I see tools is the Maemo SDK repo. I don't see it there either. http://repository.maemo.org/pool/fremantle/free/libs/

I think biketool has picked up my recent upload to extras-devel.

What is the solution then? Can we copy libslang from tools into extras, or can I upload it to extras?

The reason I reverted from ncurses to libslang was to fix the issue described here:
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../4.7.4-maemo3/
The new version contains a serious bug: if you close a terminal with mc running inside, mc will go forever into a loop, hogging 100% of CPU and draining your battery.

This is a bug in upstream mc, see: http://www.midnight-commander.org/ticket/2244

will prepare a new package after the bug is fixed.

And this is still not fixed upstream? After 3 years?!? Are you able to reproduce that problem?

TBH the proper solution would be to fix the bug, as to me it seems (by reading through the above link) that no one knows what is the exact problem and why using libslang instead of ncurses fixes it. It could be that I've missed something, but this is just a workaround or even worse - the bug is still here waiting to byte.

However, maybe uploading libslang to extras is another solution, but don't quote me on that .

Have you seen that bug thread? It got derailed badly

Is it causing missing functionality? A bit afraid to test it on my daily device as mc is easily the most used app, but will test on my testing device when I get home. If everything works, would be worth it (am I the only one to get sometimes xterm windows closing when you try to return to them? happens with microb too, already leaned to go after mc when this happens, but would love to skip that step)

I won't, oops.

Btw, Thank you ginggs!!! I was afraid mc maintainership went MIA

Yes, I am able to reproduce the problem with mc 4.7.4-maemo3 from extras-testing.
Edit:...and just to be clear, the problem still occurs with mc 4.8.10 built with ncurses.

Install bash and configure it to be your default shell.
Open a terminal, become root, then run mc.
Now close the terminal, CPU usage will jump to 100%.

I am unable to reproduce the problem with mc 4.8.10-0maemo1 from extras-devel.

I have uploaded slang2 and it seems to have built successfully.

You are welcome! Hopefully one of them is still around to accept my maintainer request.

Btw, did you manage to fix compression methods? This one is a killer feature, not sure how MAG's old version got promoted to extras, probably reputation

EDIT: deosn't seem like it, the files in /opt/mc/libexec/mc/extfs.d/ still reference /scratchbox/tools/ instead of /usr/

good thing is symlinking /usr to /scratchbox/tools seems to fix it, except for lower refresh rate when loading windows (one can actually see how original 2/3 window is loaded and maximized) everything (so far) seems to work as expected and no endless looping on xterm kill, great stuff!

Thanks for pointing this out. I've uploaded mc 4.8.10.-0maemo2 to extras-devel and it should be fixed now.

Now to find out where libslang2 went.

Mystery solved:

The problem was that slang package (which is also in the SDK) got stuck, not allowing the other packages to be processed
