Because they are patent free, you mean.

No, because they hold patents on the competing codec.

i.e. Selfone; it's a work-out-of-progress that nobody's got around to picking up...
THis includes making sure that when someone is talking, and it comes over my car speakers, the n810 knows it and doesnt send it back to the person that is talking...... (this might be slightly confusing)
Echo cancellation can certainly be added once it's working.

the feature collection is so vast and varied that one is better of having multiple, specialized apps running inside a ui that makes it simple for the user to jump between them and share data as needed.

and most of it is covered by existing apps iirc.

one bothersome detail tho, facebook no longer see microb as a valid browser. but swap the user-agent to something more "mainstream" and it works, altho a bit slow thanks to some heavy use of javascript...

heh, latest pidgin even has support for the facebook im system.

but then i prefer to use mytube (wish there was a way to redirect youtube links to it from within microb) vs canola youtube plugin, media player or youamp vs canloa music and kmplayer vs canola video.

why? because they are slimmer, more focused apps for the task they do, and i can launch any one of them directly off personal menu or personal launcher.
I don't know of any existing apps that allow me to do all of that while offline, which is my big point that you seemed to have missed. One app that can deal with putting your social content online without you needing to worry about if you are online at that point or not. And no, I haven't found any apps for uploading pictures to Facebook, MySpace and Flickr at the same time. Or scrobbling to Last.FM from Media Player... or... everything else I said.

If you think that sounds like an OS... I'm... speechless.

Facebook works 100% fine in microb without needing to change any useragent details whatsoever.

I don't want a million small programs for each service that does the same thing. I want one program that can do it for all my services... and considering the push that Nokia's making to make the tablets more social, it makes sense. Well, to me anyways.

huh? last time i tried i got a message saying my browser where to "cool" for their page...

as for the offline bit, yep, i missed that. and i take it im not up to speed on the web2.0 vocabulary as i took scrobbling as basically having the player report whats being played, to the big database at last.fm. if im right then youamp will do that (the built in media player will not).

and the upload image to x,y,z would be the big missing piece of the puzzle indeed.

as for me calling it a os, hell yes. what you described sounded like a swiss army knife of web2.0 socialite to me. and a swiss army knife is a pocketable toolbox. and to me, a os is the basic empty toolbox, ready to be filled with tools.

sounds a bit silly to carry around a toolbox with only a swiss army knife in it, no?

I think when you mentioned last.fm in addition to the other more clearly social-networking functions, it did make your point a bit less clear. 'Tis a good idea, though; you can easily write an email and it'll be sent when the tablet gets an internet connection, but you can't (presumably) do the same thing with blog entries/photo uploads.

And yeah, Facebook does work fine for me on the Tablet. Check your useragent tso, make sure it's still set on the default. I changed mine at one point and Facebook wouldn't let me on until I set it back to the actual tablet default.

heh, i recently found out that my testing of user agent switcher had left me with a broken agent string. thing was that facebook was the only page giving me issues about it.

hmm, is there not a wordpress app in the repos?

ah yes, maemo-wordpy. cant test it here until i have done some spring cleaning tho...

sharp never saw the zaurus as anything other than an electronic dictionary with a simple media player... all the other apps were just bonus. I don't think they actually gave a damn about the cult status it achieved!
