Hi,

So ovi store opened and we all expected a plethora of apps, and its been alright. But new applications for the N900 are being added at 1 per week or more.

How come its so slow? Or better, discuss why do you think its so slow

OVI store for N900 is currently in beta phase and regular developers AFAIK currently have no means for uploading stuff. So all you see in OVI store for N900 right now has been put there by Nokia.

I suppose Nokia paid the developer companies for this stuff to have something in the store from the beginning on.

To me it seems that the 'payoff' for developing Maemo apps right now is perceived to be low, compared to other platforms.

What 'payoff' you ask?

- Fame (media coverage, size of userbase)
- Fortune (paying userbase)
- Glory (high quality competitors, etc)

So, only a very specific and thin sliver of the 'potential developers' pie are targeting Maemo and spending their resources on it.

It doesn't help that Ovi doesn't yet support adding projects for N900. Give it time.

Maybe go rattle their cage.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

every day more this n900 seems to be designed by some ultra left activist. no drm. no buyable apps. only the free ones. no eye candy. no useless apps. no new fancy games. no consumerism. it seems just like east berlino some decades ago. we all know how it ended.

but if its so im with nokia! hasta la victoria!

EDIT: now we just need the black market

I'm very very happy about the work of Maemo community and about the quality of good applications I can find here.
Anyway, sometimes I check Ovi Store to see if there is something new. Nothing!
Is it normal? I expected at this point lots of good commercial applications. Is it maybe too early? Should we wait more? Or is there a lack of interest for this platform?

hi elris thats a good question i just hope that is isnt a lack of interest..

but in fact it seems to me that the whole n900 software development is a community thing. Big Mobile Software Firms seems not interested to do some apps for us..
