I really don't care how they do it. - Just offer replacement back covers. I'd pay for it, as long as they clearly state what's better in the new design. - Speaking about back covers, I wouldn't mind a more sturdy lens cover, either. It feels like cheap cardboard.

Let's have them sell luxury back covers with a metal lens cover (like they had on the 6110 Navigator)... and while they're at it, they can correct this flash-mistake.

This is so sad. Yea, replacement covers! Someone should write a generic email? I would, but my copy writing skills aren't the greatest. Chris, could you put one together and let us know who to send it to.

Or covers that allow a larger battery (and correct the
glare inducing trim, and while they are at it, shaped so as to allow the n900 to lie flat and level on its back. There is no good reason for the current wobbly design.

If Nokia can not be bothered beyond fixing the glare, they should at least release the dimensional specs for the back cover in some standard CAD format.

Can someone help me understand the problem please? I've taken quite a few pictures with the N900 and I do not see a problem. I took off the back cover as well to investigate but do not see any issue?

Are we talking about some type of glare reflecting off of something? I am trying to replicate.

I gave detailed settings for the scene, with type and wattage of the lights, relative position to my head, which was maybe 1 ft. away from the device screen from the stated distance. Those or similar scene circumstances can cause the camera to produce the aforementioned results. I'm able to randomly get good photos in medium light settings in auto mode, but notice a glare or haze from time to time. I've used every Nokia 5 mp Carl Zeiss camera, and this never should happen. The image quality should improve to spectacular over updates, but that sissified chrome ruins photos it shouldn't, and misses photos in low light it normally should handle.

I'm personally having this issue, but don't have the time at the moment to pen an email to Nokia, which I have no problem doing not so anonymously. I just have so much work to do along with my 9-5 hunt. I'm sure there are others that won't mind doing something on behalf of the official community. Maybe ask the council to nominate someone to pen an official correspondence to Nokia. We definitely have a voice to be heard.

I haven't read this whole thread, bugt registering the same disappointing issue with my N900.

So disappointing. The dual flash is an improvement on the N95 but it's wasted with this glare issue.

I tried putting black electrical tape over the chrome that's around the LED flasher's but it did not solve the problem.

I tried with the cover off and it definately solves it.

So what is causing this issue??

Taking the back off really does solve the problem.

But, the problems with taking the back off as a long-term workaround:
  • The microSD card becomes unavailable, and that's where I save my pics by default.
  • The camera app shuts down and must be started manually (the lens cover detection doesn't work)
  • The "guts" of the device are exposed, and that's bothersome.
