Hello
I wonder if it's possible to download the maps to the internal memory of N900, cus I haven't got a memory card...

Hi jumbark, check out Jaffa's instructions linked on the first page of this thread. The instructions show you the directory, MyDocs, on the internal storage of the N900 to put the files.

I have some problems with the map loader and I use windows xp PRO SP3.Actually,when I first used the program everything was just fine(you know i downloaded the maps and the voices which i wanted and everything was ok).Unfortunately,I had to restore my system due to a problem which I was facing, but the date which i had chosen to restore it it wasn't before the date that the map loader was working fine. Moreover,I had to flash the emmc on my nokia n900 and install again the maemo 5(in the updated version). The problem that I am facing right now is that the map loader keeps saying:''Waiting for phone'',even if it's says to me in the beggining that I have connected at least one phone(nokia n900) without a valid Maps drive and either I was using an old Maps version - then I must update my Maps application or reconnect my phone in mass storage mode - or I have never started my Maps application - then I have to start the Maps application once and restart Map loader. Now,the weird thing is that I have started at least once the Map application on n900 and the n900 is always on mass storage mode when I load the Map loader. That's all from me.Please somebody tell me what is going on because I swear to God........I am going to break my device and my pc both at the same time.

P.S(1).;I have seen the manual way to put the maps on my n900 but,I can not find the MyDocs folder and the folder ''Cities''.If the MyDocs folder is the one that is showed up when you choose to explore the device(in the mass storage mode)then I can not find only the ''Cities'' folder.

P.S(2).:Sorry for the HUGE TEXT and sorry for this noobish question

The cities folder should be created when you run Maps on the N900 (and yes, the MyDocs folder is the one that gets mapped as a drive in mass storage mode). If it's not, then this'll be why the Map Loader doesn't work. Did you run Ovi Maps without the phone connected to the PC (as it can't access MyDocs when it's in mass storage mode)?

Yes,I ran the Ovi maps without the phone connected to the pc and I ran it also when the phone was connected to the pc.I don't know why,but the problem sounds to me like a data loss. So,I suppose I have to flash again my device?

P.S.oes the gps on n900 work offline?I would like to go somewhere with my car and I don't know where is it.Also,I don't have an Internet connection on my n900.So,is there any way to use the Ovi maps while I drive

I've just checked on mine by renaming the cities directory and running maps - a new one does get created. This suggests there's something up with yours. I'd recommend connecting the N900 to the PC in mass storage mode, then running a check on the disk.

As for the GPS working offline, that's a bit of an issue at the moment. Theoretically the GPS will work entirely offline (if you disable the network assistance), but at the moment Ovi Maps times out looking for a GPS signal too quickly (and stops immediately when the screen goes into standby). This has been fixed (increasing the timeout to 10 minutes, and keeping searching even if the display is off) but we'll have to wait for the next firmware release for this. There is a location-test package you can install (not sure where though - I've not bothered looking) which you can use to get a lock before starting Ovi Maps.

I ran a disk check from windows, but it does't find any problems. Can you please upload a screenshot of the MyDocs folder just to make sure that I am looking to the right place(if you don't mind).

Not sure what you mean by a screenshot of it (from X Terminal, File Manager, or where). You can see the contents of the MyDocs folder by running (in X Terminal):
Code:
ls -al /home/user/MyDocs
You should have .documents, .images, .sounds, .videos directories in there, and that's where the "cities" directory is created by default.
