If anyone can do this, couldn't you make the patch public/downloadable - with the necessary disclaimer, of course?

It would be fantastic to at least have the option to turn this light off, which is really a standard feature in normal phones with camera LEDs.
As I've written above, I've applied the changes and recompiled and it does *not* work.

Oh sorry, I missed that. Crap.

So what do we do? Is it impossible to turn the light off in any permanent way?

No answer, so I guess that means yes, it is impossible.

This is a really unrightful limitation of user freedom by Nokia. I am not going to die, but it does seem weird to make hard-coded limitations like this on a device which is supposed to be oh-so-open and free.

But in the midst of all this freedom and openness, of course, Nokia tyranically enforces some idiosyncratic "privacy" policy, in a way that reeks of the suspicion of criminality against it's own customers, uncalled for by laws in most European countries at least, with absolutely no esteem for their personal freedom and responsibility.

Problem solved.
Here I provide a module for the nokia kernel (adp1653-kernel-pr13.zip) and another one for kernel-power (adp1653-kernel-kp49.zip).
To test the new module, decompress the zip corresponding to your kernel, and to load it type the following sequence as root in the directory where you extracted the module
Code:
stop omap3camd0
rmmod adp1653
insmod adp1653.ko
start omap3camd0
To disable the red light, type as root: echo 1 >/sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-2/2-0030/disable_indicator_led
To enable it, write a 0. It's enabled by default.
To definitely install it, put the module where it belongs (/lib/modules/2.6.28.....)
Attached Files
File Type: zip adp1653-kernel-kp49.zip (3.1 KB, 405 views)
File Type: gz disable_indicator_led.patch.gz (1.1 KB, 222 views)
File Type: zip adp1653-kernel-pr13.zip (3.1 KB, 335 views)

Okay, I also just installed it.

I still have kernel-power-v47, the adp1653.ko from adp1653-kernel-kp49.zip seems to work also with this kernel version.

So far, everything is fine, works perfect.

Put it in a startup script (either in /etc/rc.d or in /etc/event.d
