It was supposed to automatically uninstall SDLMAME as part of the installation, but HAM doesn't fully follow the debian package hints, so you should do it manually.

Regarding the change of name: the MAME people aren't any more involved with Maemo than they were before. What has changed is that SDLMAME, which was formerly a side project to allow MAME to run on linux and MacOS and such, is now an integral part of MAME. It's a good thing because it means that a tested and functional SDL port is (in theory) part of each MAME release now.

I don't anticipate huge differences between this version and the previous Maemo release. There were some fixes to autosave which might be relevant. I'm just relieved to have a working port again after the merge.

I'm going to upload another version tonight that will have the usual hack to fix the non-QWERTY keyboard issue and also automatically start and stop accelemymote if it is installed. I'm looking at ways of improving the menu but it's implemented in the most general way possible, meaning that what might have been hacked together in a few pages of code comprises a few hundred kb of code.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

I have just tested a few games which ran much slower than 100% speed and all seem to run 3-5% quicker.
It may just be a coincidence but can anyone else see if they get the same results. i was lucky my previous results were on the sdlmame wiki http://wiki.maemo.org/Sdlmameso so i had something to compare with.

games tested:-

marble madness
outrun
afterburner
ghouls n ghosts
r-type (the speed of the game still boosts from 32% to 85% after 30 secs of the rom running)

I've found galaxians running a lot better. Still not 100% but good enough at the moment.

You mean, portrait...

All these people always moaning about not having portrait mode and then when they get it, they complain.

Well as i mentioned in the release note, i changed the mame.ini to enable autorotate for games that are vertical. It creates a big enough problem for controls that i will change it back for the next release.

As for the slowdown, that's interesting. Did you try any of the ROMs from the wiki and see if your results are comparable?

I tried these and found,

wonderboy - steady 76% speed
wonderboy in monster land - steady 75% speed
bombjack - 101% speed and it looks great in portrait

What do you get?

I just thought of a great game for the accelerometer - Bubbles.
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7226

BTW Flandry, did you say you would have MAME find the accelemote by default? Because I don't think I would want it on all the time. That's not what you meant, was it?

Ed... marble madnes is still asking for additional roms, even though my 137 set is complete and verified! What's up?!?!

mame (0.137-0maemo2) unstable; urgency=low

* Startup script now changes to QWERTY layout for the poor souls
affected by the Nokia keyboard layout bug.
* Now depends on accelemymote. The startup script will automatically
start the accelemymote daemon. If the phone is not inverted within
4 seconds, the tilt control will shutdown again.
* Menu font is now macroscopic.
* Mame.ini now specifies .mame instead of .sdlmame as the settings dir.

This version is in the autobuilder right now. It's a minor update that's not really very exciting if you don't want to use tilt control or have a keyboard without arrows.

oldpmaguy: It is on by default but shuts down if you don't flip your phone over for a moment after you start MAME.

No idea about marble madness. I've never tried it. Does it work with the mame 0.137 windows release?

Edit: Probably better to not update to this version unless you don't use the accelerometer. I thought i had fixed the configuration corruption that showed up somewhere between the last version and this one, but i guess not. If you do install it, you'll have to go in and edit the keymaps in the UI menu to re-add the directional control arrows. I guess that's what i get for mucking around with a user interface written like a piece of circuit board.

Marble madness works but at 64% speed with poor sound

@oldpmaguy

The rom is marble.zip 413 kb as it loads it says marble madness (set 1)

Try it on the pc version of 0.137 1st then do the same thing on the n900 version.
