I have two humble suggestions:

1. as suggested before - replace the "refresh" button with update.

2. When clicking the applet under spotty network conditions, it can freeze the desktop until either connection timeouts or the current status is finally retrieved. I would suggest that retrieving the previous status be implemented on the dialog box, would become optional, and a cancel button would be added for both retrieving previous status and the update process. In my experience completely blocking network access without the option to cancel can have adverse effects when network coverage is partial or spotty. Especially so for such a tightly integrated component of the desktop that can prevent complete usability for a while.

Again, great and useful applet as it is...

Great observation. I will do my best to implement your request, as it's necessary.
Thanks.

Even worse, when it finally doesnt answer at all and you kill it all your widgets disappear. I think it's better not to have any "last status" at all than a non-threaded version. Btw, any progress on the char-counter?

I want to leave the "last status" field and I've to find out which is the best way to make it non-blocking.
For the char-counter part, I was willing to implement (or grab somewhere) the one that appears when you write a sms (very cool, isn't it ? ) but I wasn't able to find it and, atm, to implement it. I will do some more research, after , if nothing found, I will develop a basic one.

Adding option for @l location tag from the phones location would be great.. Twitter and Brighkite at least support this option... That's like the only thing missing..

That's cool but risky... it's an applet, not an application. Location determination can take a really long time. What would the applet do during that whole time? block the desktop?
Just a though

The @l location tag could be setted as option: when you click it/check it then the app starts to discover your location (with the warning that it can take a long time).
It's the first solution that comes to my mind, what do you think about ?

Of course it should be an option. But if you have your location already somewhat figured out for IM plugins... Could that location be used? It doesn't have to be exact, just what the user has configured for IM status messages.

Hi,

an update for mstatus-applet is now available:
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...us-applet/0.6/

The improvements are:
1. a char counter
2. a first threads implementations
3. a better handling of the latest status

After upgrading, I will suggest a reboot.

Feedbacks are welcome!

Best Regards,
Daniele Maio
