I think it has been made clear that official MMS is not coming. Waiting for it is just torturing yourself

Actually, that hasn't been made clear. Not to my knowledge.

Care to share a direct link to a Nokia press release that states this?

Not a press release but...

We have contacted frals to congratulate him for his work, and to offer him concrete help in areas where help is missing. Nothing new, we have been doing this with other Fremantle stars (I guess nobody doubts that frals is a Star).

We will help him with the UI in the lines of the UX Meets Code hackfest, and we will also help dealing with some Maemo interfaces fMMS needs (the release of the wappushd-dev package in the last Maemo SDK update was a first step).

In fact we have invited frals to visit the Maemo headquarters in Helsinki, so he can meet our developers and designers face to face. Sweden is just around the corner anyway.

Said that, we have no intention of supporting MMS in Fremantle ourselves. That was and is our plan. The fact that MMS got a big user demand and the fact that an open source community project is satisfying it just tells you that there is something good going on here.

I'm wondering why we can see so opposite opinions about PR1.2 after all.
Are your level of expectation grown up to high? Do you expect that 1.3 will teach your N900 to bring you coffee every morning?

Allow me to correct this one, if you don't mind.

"I'm wondering why we do not see opposite reactions to the PR1.2 release.

Your level of expectations set too high? Did you expect that PR1.3 will teach your N900 to bring you coffee every morning?"

Just a bit chunky on the English there, devu. I got the gist of what you were saying, but I have to admit to being forced to re-read it because it was oddly written.

And thank you nosa101; I did not see that announcement. fMMS is a wonderful community based inclusion and I'm glad to see Nokia embrace it. What of the other lacking portions though?

MMS not being the initial goal though is news to me - I can't say that they made this public notice upfront. Which eerily is the same for Flash Player 10.1, Exchange provisioning and a few other issues that some people are having around here with their N900 purchases.

Any other lists of what they will/will not include?

From what I've read, it seems a lot of problems stem from users updating with hacked kernels, mods or tweaks... or just applications not updated for 1.2 causing problems.

I updated from a standard n900 with no problems, as did a lot of others...

[edit] Questions & Answers about Maemo 5
[edit] Will Nokia official support MMS in Maemo 5 ?

... (W)e have no intention of supporting MMS in Fremantle ourselves. That was and is our plan.

Source : Quim Gil (Nokia)

Editor note : Community member Frals has developed an application (fMMS) for sending and receiving MMS.

We have contacted frals to congratulate him for his work, and to offer him concrete help in areas where help is missing. Nothing new, we have been doing this with other Fremantle Stars (I guess nobody doubts that frals is a Star).
