perhaps a campaign for another day but... when sim cards are swapped by thieves they generally tend to put in an unregistered empty pay as u go sim rather than their own (or no sim at all) to test it. perhaps we could lobby our own provider to allow FREE sim independant data connection to a simple server solely for the purpose of reporting stolen phone co-ordinates etc?

I know i am the odd man out on this. But what about plugging into the prey project.
http://preyproject.com/
they have a linux client, we might just require a little bit of tweaking.

It's a daemon app (idk what that means, I just installed it to help the author), and it boots with the phone. You can't shut it down unless you know N900 and coding.

so why dont you just disable the lock code? i know it seems kind of stupid but look at it from the other angle...a thief steals your phone. he changes the sim card. then he gets a simple "hello" (example of a command for smscon that starts the tracking) sms. he doesnt even know that he is tracked so he uses the phone. then you can find him (with a couple of strong friends =P) and reclaim the phone. he will not have the balls to try that again =D
if you have a lock than the thief simply throws the turned off phone in the garbage and you never find it.
just my opinion..
One problem though , If someone steals the phone, no matter what rings would be hard to get it back.
But surely a good concept. So that watch is fully compatible with n900?
